Droid-50 Video Blackscreens
« on: May 21, 2013, 11:31:24 AM »
Hello,

We typically run 10-second video clips 854x480 h264 flv 24fps 1920Kbps and after a short while they start to regularly black screen for the first 1-3 seconds until it seems to catch up. I do have the player software set to restart after .2gig memory.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything more I can do or is that the way it goes with these players?

Thanks,

Andrew

Just a heads up to this - After some testing we have concluded that the droids are not powerful enough to play video (even at 360p) with a twitter bottom bar and weather, clock sidebar.

So we have them set up now to play video full screen in a timeline and switch to the bottom and side bar timeline with images from a custom RSS in the large window and now the systems run beautifully.

It has also cut down on Android player error messages and malfunctions probably because I was just pushing them too hard -

FYI to anyone this applies to.

Thanks,

I too was having video playback problems on the MediaDroid50h and MediaDroid85h using FLV-h264 video.  Strange flashes to black and restart issues.  Then, I decided to try a simple mp4 with an h264 codec and voila!  PERFECT playback.  I think the MediaDroids have an issue with the flv-h264 hardware acceleration and end up choking.  This is how I am creating perfect video playback:

My screen division for playback is:  1280x640

Create video as follows:  Make your video the same aspect ratio as the 1280x640 canvas but a smaller ratio - 950x475 using MP4-h264 at 2400kbs data rate.  When added to the screen division, it will will the zone and play back perfectly.

So, to recap:  the MediaDroids don't seem to like the flv-h264 format but do just fine with an mp4-h264.  PCs seem to be fine with either format but can use the hardware acceleration fine with the flv-h264.

Hope this helps!!  After I got all of my glitchy issues worked out with MediaDroids, the units are performing exceptional!!!
