Hi. I was looking for some suggestions on how to configure a Windows computer with AirPlayer for digital signage. My first choice would be to use Linux but there is no working/stable solution for Linux right now.
My main concern is to be able to monitor/manage everything remotely. Automation is also important for me. The less things I have to do, the better.
Here is what I am thinking so far:
- Recovery from power outage. Configure BIOS to power on computer automatically after a power outage is probably the best way to achieve this.
- Automatically login to computer. I was thinking of using TweakUI to automatically have a windows login as a certain user.
- Automatically have AirPlayer start. (I think AirPlayer already does this).
- Ability to reboot the computer remotely. I was thinking of using VNC but I really don't viewers to see a mouse pointer moving around the screen clicking things. What is the best way to handle this silently?
- Ability to turn the monitor on/off using RS232 connection. I don't need my screens to run 24/7 so I would like to turn them on/off through the RS232 interface. What is the best way to do this in Windows? I would also like to schedule the turning on/off of monitors at certain time so I don't have to do it myself.
- Make Windows not look like Windows. I would like to hide the fact that I am using Windows if possible. This means removing/changing the Windows boot up logos, Desktop icons, toolbar etc. What is the best way to achieve this.
These are the most important features I think I would need, off the top of my head. I would be interested to see how others are configuring their Windows computers to accomplish these things. I would also be interested to hear anything you are doing that I haven't mentioned here.
Thanks!
