It would be a nice feature to add a checkbox in the station parameters, or possibly on install?? to enable the white popupbox (connection status, etc) to not be dispalyed on startup. I have a few situations with very large displays when this appears blinding everyone :) I've done my very very best to have a total blackout during boot, and initilization - aside from the big white box that starts with MediaSignagePlayer.

What was the result of this? Are iDisplays functional with MS?

We have thousands of successful Android deployments in the field, BUT, with Android, CPU stress can create racing conditions which can lead to errors, so it all depends on the content used... So Android is an amazing platform for signage, but has a limit on CPU load.

Out of interest, what spec of android players are you using?

I'm running a few of these, 64GB HDD, and 4GB RAM - I've seen 'run out of memory' a few dozen times which is weird considering at the moment they're only playing static images, but apart from that they're holding up OK. Win7e POSReady with the new native player.

But yeah, they do get pretty warm, pretty fast...

SignageStudio / SWF Image URLRequest
« on: January 20, 2015, 02:58:45 PM »
I'm trying to create a SWF file that loads iamges dynamically from a JSON file, requested from a server.

I have my SWF loading the files fine, however when using it in the studio, it returns blank.

I have set teh 3rd Party setting, and Trusted setting in the resources tab.. still not working.

Does anyone have any ideas?

has there been any progress on this?

I deleted everything and re+installed it, running the installation as administrator, this seems to have fixed it. I will keep testing it on my other stations to be sure.

Hmm.. that is odd, can you check if you have the Watchdogdesktop.exe  running in under processes?

Yep, there is a WatchDog.exe service running

Restart signage player from studiopro seems to just quit the application and doesn't return. Is this suitable for production environments? If one has over 100players in the field with this updated, and they all quit on restart.. not too good.

What OS are you running, Just tested this on a few of our test station on the lab and all worked fine with no issues.  Please make sure that you dont have anymore signage controller.bar shortcut on your startup folder as well.

Fresh installation of Win7e POS Ready.
I only have one .bat file, that starts 4.30.2 .exe

Is the player still in BETA stages or is it good to go for production environments?

I have also reproduced this problem..

I have spoken to Stein in their chat system and he has also reproduced the problem (see transcript). He has escalated this to the dev team, who hopefully can do a fix for it - possibly for the new standalone verion. It's very noticeable on very large screens.. and doesn't look good at all - resulting in me not using the transition effects.

07:24 Stein S: so you are testing this on a windows player then right?
07:24 Blackfox: Yes
07:26 Stein S: i think this is happening because the images are too big in file size
07:26 Stein S: at full screen, 1920x1080 = 2 megapixels
07:27 Blackfox: hmm... i wasnt aware this would be a problem...
07:27 Stein S: with jpeg your file size with full quality should be 1mb below
07:27 Stein S: i think reducing the file size will improve this
07:28 Blackfox: but surely the system could cope with a 3mb file.. seems strange why it couldnt
07:28 Stein S: ill test this first on a player
07:28 Blackfox: OK
07:28 Blackfox: the images are saved in photoshop, as JPG max.
07:32 Stein S: hmm i do see it
07:32 Stein S: although it's not very noticeable in my station because my test station has a small screen
07:32 Stein S: but i kinda see that it changes in quality for about a second
07:32 Blackfox: ok.. well this is a very very large display..
07:33 Stein S: i think it has to do with the transition, that it loads like a lower resolution for the transition
07:33 Blackfox: Yeah, exactly.
07:35 Stein S: there really isn't a way to change this behavior unfortunately
07:35 Stein S: i would suggest to reduce the file size to make this less apparent
07:35 Blackfox: hmm, ok.. maybe this is a bug, i mean, for expected behaviour it isn't really good..
07:36 Blackfox: could it be changed in the new version of the player? the standalone one?
07:38 Stein S: ill send a suggestion to the development team

SignagePlayer / Custom windows shell
« on: November 27, 2014, 02:24:20 AM »
Hi, I'm playing around with POSReady and Win7e - The ability to create your own shell seems very appealing. Has there been any research into this or anyone who has done it? With the new DS .exe avilable out now, this might be the way to go?

The ability to start without the taskbar natively is nice.

Report bugs and errors / Re: Last image in loop sticks for a long time
« on: October 27, 2014, 09:08:49 AM »
I've started to see this on a few screens i have.. Instead of the loop and back into the start of the channel it usually appears black or straight into the channel image - instead the background from the last image shown is displayed instead of black.. it looks pretty bad. My timelines haven;t changed for a few months now and it's just started appearing within the last few weeks.  :-\

It's also something i see too when stopping the player, the picture stays in the background instead of the background going black and the player connection box on top like it used too.. there is something definitely going on.

New features and suggestions / Automatic File Cleanup
« on: October 26, 2014, 03:55:19 AM »
This feature could be nice, with some expiry date/time within the signage studio resources?

I have a few clients that use a lot of images that expire within a few weeks, their cloud usage is growing and growing, and keeping track of what images are used in which campaign is a pretty tedious task. An expiry time/date could be nice that would run on some sort of cron based system? either within the studiolite or pro version. I have often thought about developing a small script to conntect to the API and look for folders with time stamps on to delete if the timestamp has passed.. I'm sure the servers could benefit from this, storage wise.
