Report bugs and errors / Mouse Action
« on: December 02, 2009, 10:32:29 AM »
This concerns White Label - look and feel.

With regard to this web page: http://mediasignage.com/html/digital_signage_software.html

When I move the mouse over the AirStudio link, I get a mouse over effect on the image and the mouse icon changes; in my case from arrow to hand. I like that.

When I move to mouse over the WebStudio link, I do not get a mouse over image effect, but at least the mouse icon changes to indicate it is a link.

When I loaded the HTML download content from the white label reseller tools section, and place that code in a web page, I do not get any mouse over effects or a change in the mouse icon for either the WebStudio image link or the Login image Link. The links work, just no indication that they are links.

If it is not a bug or coding error, I guess I do not know enough about HTML to fix that myself. A little help?

Thanks for the quick reply Sean.

I have watched that video several times and cannot get my head around how it would be useful in the way I described (poorly described apparently).

I have 5 five-minute ads and four Airplayers. I want this to occur:

Airplayer 1 : Play ad #1, then #2, then#3, then#4 and repeat
Airplayer 2: Play ad #1, then Ad#1 again, Then Ad# 4, then repeat
Airplayer 3 Play ad#3 then Ad#1, then Ad #4, then Ad#4 again then repeat
Airplayer 4 Play Ad#2 and repeat.

All Airplayers at 4:55 play ad#5 then go back to normal loop.

I can see cut and paste being useful to make this work, but don't get how multi-screen plays a part at all.

I have been investigating Medai Signage for a couple of weeks now and really am very impressed with its capabilities and ease of use. Some features are not quite as intuitive as I would like, but this is early stage work, I understand.

One thing I've noticed is the Campaign-centric approach to the digital signage solution. This is great if you have just a few messages to send to many AirPlayers. Think of this as a single cable TV station, collecting all the content and sending it out to all of the TV's. Maybe they have some functionality to change their programing for a different area, but that is a rare event.

Now think from the Cable Subscribers point of view. They want to select from the content that is already out there and decide what to watch and when.

MediaSignage seems to be heading the direction of the cable TV channel provider. You create the Channel (MS campaign), decide what content will be shown and when it will be shown (create timeline and add resources to screens), then the channel is ready to be sent to all the TV's. But the TV's cannot view the SAME content at different times without having to recreate and duplicate the content for another screen.

In a Screen-centric approach, the campaign would be replaced by the screen. We create the content only once and a Screen can pick and choose what content to play and when. I could develop three ads and ANY screen could choose that any add and in what order without duplication. I could use the sequencer or scheduler on a screen basis. If I want to create a "campaign", then I might want the ability to group screens and apply the changes one time to all screens, but that would be rare in my opinion.

If I have 3 ads (channels of information) and 3 screens and want to display those ads on separate screens, at separate times and in different order, it would take up to 9 channels, most of which had duplicate information, to accomplish this in a campaign-centric world. In a screen-centric world, it would take only 3 channels.

Right now, the Airplayer can connect to only to a single screen within a campaign. I suggest an Airplayer be able to connect to any and or all channels of any campaign and be able to sequence or schedule the Airplayer content. Grab an Airplayer, choose the content you want to play, arrange in the order you want and schedule it to run when you want.

Who needs a campaign?

Report bugs and errors / Dynamic Text Label do not repeat
« on: November 30, 2009, 07:07:35 PM »
I used the editor to create a scene where several lines of text that move from off-screen positions to on-screen positions, from right to left. I set up a 30 second channel in a 30 second timeline. Everything looks good the first time through, but the second time, there is no motion. Text shows up in position 2 of the dynamic settings. Oddly, graphics with dynamic settings do show their motion the second time through.

Also, I noticed that if I extend the timeline to 1 minute, and set the channel to repeat to fill the timeline, then the images do not show motion for the repeat (the second start at 30 seconds into the timeline), but do show motion again when the timeline repeats.

SignageStudio / Re: Airplayer Screen Targets
« on: November 30, 2009, 02:51:42 PM »
Darn thing timed out and now I am typing all over again.....

I had all my screens in the same timeline. I would need to create a new timeline for the "notice". I would need to schedule the "primary" timeline to run 24 hours at a low priority and set the "notice" timeline to paly at 4:45PM. Correct?

I noticed that I could not preview the new timeline with the web browser from the option panel. The only way I could preview it was to switch back to sequential, and move the new timeline up to the top of the list.

This would not work for making changes to a campaign that was live.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong?

SignageStudio / Airplayer Screen Targets
« on: November 30, 2009, 01:51:29 PM »
I know the Airplayer is targeted to a Campaign->Screen

Say, I have a Campaign that has three screens. In the business location (lets assume a clothing store), one Airplayer is playing screen1 - a loop of "Boys Clothes" and another screen2- a loop of "Mens Clothes" and perhaps a third monitor is playing screen3 - a loop of "Women's Clothes".

At 5 minutes to 5pm, I want all the screens to show a notice that the store is closing in 5 minutes.

How do I do that?

Or every hour, I want to show today's sale items on all three screens or maybe just one or two?

Report bugs and errors / Beta 1.8.155 - no text effects
« on: November 21, 2009, 07:48:34 AM »
I created a screen with editor that has some text with dynamic blur that starts out blurred and then over 4 seconds, gets clear. This plays well in the editor view and the campaign view. But if I save and upload, the effect doe snot show up in either the airplayer or web viewing. All I see is the final text immediately. Not transition forom blur to clear.

Yes, yes, I tried it all for several hours. Not smart enough to get it to work on Vista SP2.

You forced me to create an XP VMware virtual machine, install all the updates, download the beta studio and player and reboot the VM.

It worked in XP without any changes to the campaign configuration that did not work in Vista.

Now I can get to some testing. Where do want me to post any issues/bugs/recommendations on the beta?

After viewing the tutorial (Which I find very usefull..keep the coming), I could not replicate the functionality. When the player restarted, I saw a full screen black image with AIR in the upper left corner. After several retries, I would get the same black box with AIR in teh upper left corner and sometimes get the Windows START button in the lower left.

Sometimes I would get TWO players runining that had MediaSignage logo saying standby. But nothing ever happened after that. Maybe it is a permission thing? Not sure. Have full admin priv.'s

Tried pointing to executable with, and without, quotes:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe and "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

I could not get it to start the default calc.exe.

Here is an article I wrote that may be of interest to those asking the question: Commercial vs. Consumer with regards to Digital Signage Monitors.
