Report bugs and errors / Clock Component - Custom Format issue
« on: December 19, 2009, 01:39:50 PM »
After inserting the clock component in SS v1.8.184, and creating a custom format and save it, I cannot go back and modify the custom format. The text is not selectable.

By the way, I still jump to my reseller home page when I click on Help-> About in SS 1.8184

SignagePlayer / Can I Embed a campaign on a web page?
« on: December 19, 2009, 08:28:16 AM »
When you create a campaign for a client, you need to get approval from the client before publishing it. The trouble is that if you send a link to the preview webplayer, the client might have their desktop resolution set to something different than the screen was designed for. That makes things look odd.

I was thinking that perhaps there is a way to embed the campaign in a web page and control the screen resolution shown in the embedded code, so that the demo always looked good, albeit a bit smaller perhaps?

Any ideas?

If you were designing an info board for a specific location with one or two duplicating screens, what would recommend to have the least inpact on your time to accomplish such things as changes and scheduling.

The idea is to have the Info Board manager call with a new item they want to announce, like a day trip. The events are always changing and, of course, have limited time value. You don't want to be playing events that are over.

Do you create a standard campaign and add timelines for each event and manually pull the events that are over? Do you create a new campaign for the event and use scheduler to add a higher priority event? What if there are two events to choose from but overlapping times? One event may be going on for a month, another for only a day during that same month. Another for two weeks during that same month and part of the next month.

Do you see what I am getting at? There are so many options in MediaSignage, but what would be the least amount of work for the VAR, that can be repeated over and over as events come up, and go past?

New features and suggestions / Emergency Campaign Override
« on: December 13, 2009, 05:31:32 PM »
I'd like to see the ability for speciic end-users to be able to override the scheduled Campaign/timeline to play a selection of general emergency timelines.

Similar to the Music Controller, pehaps an emergency notification controller that the user could pick from several buttons for Fire Alarm, Weather Alert, other Emergency, pre-configured campaigns. The user could click the button again to stop the emrgency notification and continue with the previously scheduled campaign.

General discussion on the mediaCLOUD / VLC and AVerMedia Capture Card
« on: December 09, 2009, 06:47:23 PM »
Does anyone know the command line options to get VLC to run a capture card in a screen division full screen with no chrome and tool bars, etc? I can get it to work fine from the UI, but can't figure out the Command Line.

New features and suggestions / Resource file size and total resources
« on: December 07, 2009, 10:10:20 AM »
If a customer is to be charged based on their storage requirements, we need a way to determine those on this end. I can't find it anywhere.

Any hints as to how to find uploaded file size and total storage used?

Report bugs and errors / Sort Resource by Width/Height Bug

The columns sorts by numbers, not by amount. 1350 is shown as smaller than 14.

New features and suggestions / RSS Component Feature Request
« on: December 06, 2009, 11:26:01 AM »
I'd like to be able to select only the Title or Only the Description in the vertical scrolling RSS component. Right now I need to change the description or title font color to match the background and adjust the size. Works, but a check box would be nice too.

Report bugs and errors / Mouse shows on restart
« on: December 06, 2009, 10:47:13 AM »
When the XPe box restarts and the campaign includes an extended application whose screen division includes the center are of the full screen, then when windows restarts, the mouse is shown in the center of the screen.

Need a way to hide the mouse on no movement after a period of time and come back if the mouse is moved.

Report bugs and errors / Power loss and Recovery
« on: December 05, 2009, 03:48:30 PM »
I've been doing some testing for fault tolerance. I think we all agree we need the solution to return gracefully to the state it was in before the power loss. I am glad to see that for the most part this is the case.

I did find that using the the new external application, there may still be some issues.

I set up an external application (VirtualVCR) in a screen division along with two other screen divsions with only an image (so as to determine the cause).

I found that on a power loss (pulled the plug), and regaining power, all screen divisions return except the external application, VirtualVCR in my case. I got a black box with Air in the upper left corner.

After a time, SignageStudio again showed a Green circle for that station, so I guess it queries on some schedule.

I found I needed to select the station with SingageStudio and click the "update SignagePlayer with new changes" button. Upon update, the video appeared as before.

Of coursed, if I was not at the location, I would not have known that the video was not playing.

New features and suggestions / Station Reboot - On-screen warning
« on: December 05, 2009, 08:22:50 AM »
When I do an station reboot from the SignageStudio (1.8.175) Stations section, the computer hosting the Airplayer (1.8.169)  pops up with a Windows "System Shutdown" in 30 seconds warning.

Perhaps there is a switch to stop the warning and reboot immediately?

In the photo linked below you can see that I started the Aiplayer about 5 minutes previos to the screen shot. Notice the time shown does not match my computer. My SignageStudio computer time and the Airplayer computer times match. Where is this time coming from?

Report bugs and errors / Schedule Time Reboot Bug?
« on: December 04, 2009, 07:44:16 AM »
1.) Select a station and set a scheduled reboot time. Save and upload.
2.) Close SignageStudo and restart SignageStudio. Check schedule time reboot setting for the station.

When I do the above, the scheduled time either shows 00:00 or 23:00 when I return to check. not sure why it is one or the other. Seems random.

I have discovered that the system actually DOES reboot at the time I originally set, but with the schedule time showing 00:00, there is no way to find out what I originally set without writing it down someplace.

Report bugs and errors / Mouse Action
« on: December 02, 2009, 10:32:29 AM »
This concerns White Label - look and feel.

With regard to this web page: http://mediasignage.com/html/digital_signage_software.html

When I move the mouse over the AirStudio link, I get a mouse over effect on the image and the mouse icon changes; in my case from arrow to hand. I like that.

When I move to mouse over the WebStudio link, I do not get a mouse over image effect, but at least the mouse icon changes to indicate it is a link.

When I loaded the HTML download content from the white label reseller tools section, and place that code in a web page, I do not get any mouse over effects or a change in the mouse icon for either the WebStudio image link or the Login image Link. The links work, just no indication that they are links.

If it is not a bug or coding error, I guess I do not know enough about HTML to fix that myself. A little help?

I have been investigating Medai Signage for a couple of weeks now and really am very impressed with its capabilities and ease of use. Some features are not quite as intuitive as I would like, but this is early stage work, I understand.

One thing I've noticed is the Campaign-centric approach to the digital signage solution. This is great if you have just a few messages to send to many AirPlayers. Think of this as a single cable TV station, collecting all the content and sending it out to all of the TV's. Maybe they have some functionality to change their programing for a different area, but that is a rare event.

Now think from the Cable Subscribers point of view. They want to select from the content that is already out there and decide what to watch and when.

MediaSignage seems to be heading the direction of the cable TV channel provider. You create the Channel (MS campaign), decide what content will be shown and when it will be shown (create timeline and add resources to screens), then the channel is ready to be sent to all the TV's. But the TV's cannot view the SAME content at different times without having to recreate and duplicate the content for another screen.

In a Screen-centric approach, the campaign would be replaced by the screen. We create the content only once and a Screen can pick and choose what content to play and when. I could develop three ads and ANY screen could choose that any add and in what order without duplication. I could use the sequencer or scheduler on a screen basis. If I want to create a "campaign", then I might want the ability to group screens and apply the changes one time to all screens, but that would be rare in my opinion.

If I have 3 ads (channels of information) and 3 screens and want to display those ads on separate screens, at separate times and in different order, it would take up to 9 channels, most of which had duplicate information, to accomplish this in a campaign-centric world. In a screen-centric world, it would take only 3 channels.

Right now, the Airplayer can connect to only to a single screen within a campaign. I suggest an Airplayer be able to connect to any and or all channels of any campaign and be able to sequence or schedule the Airplayer content. Grab an Airplayer, choose the content you want to play, arrange in the order you want and schedule it to run when you want.

Who needs a campaign?
