I tried using that for an embedded player output but unfortunately it does not shrink scenes for that output :(

Right. That disables the half a second fading transition between resources on the timeline. The video files instead just stops half a second early resulting in loss of full file playback and a screen flicker - but yes it does eliminate the transition effect...

My solution:

1. add 1 second to the end of every video in the timeline. So a 10 second video file is set to play for 11 seconds and so on.
2. Make sure my created video files have a fade to black for the last 15 frames built into them (might not be totally necessary but is my safe guard)

I believe this is a problem on android because video transitions were originally a default for windows but when android was released the hardware couldn't handle it so they make a transition toggle option. Unfortunately, they still need to do some programming so that the software continues to play the video file to completion when unchecked rather than cutting off to do a fade transition that no longer fades...

Anyway hope that helps you.

Would like to use the collection component as an interactive banner on my KIOSK where I can load banners that link directly to profiles I have made in the system. I would like the banner to randomly change every 10 seconds while the user is using the KIOSK.

Thanks!

Hey Vdmidia,

I had a good chat with their support after a post from admin on one of my other rss strings about how it will cache RSS. They put in a bug fix request and at first glance version 4.15.24 seems to have fixed the RSS feeds from instantly disappearing upon disconnection from the internet (windows 7). I will be doing some more testing for xp and android over the next week when I get a bit more time - but it looks like they are on the right track.

MS - could you share what you are up to between versions? 4.15.20 vs 4.15.24 for example... your last update to the live doc was in October of 2013!

Thanks,

Andrew

Hey guys,

I was just informed by live chat that RSS Feeds are not expected to cache upon internet connection loss as they are a 'web component'.

I would like to request that a caching engine be built for this as having something playing (even if it is old) is far better than black screens with loading bars.

NOTE: XML component seems to have this built in... it just needs to be applied to RSS as well.

Hope to hear from you soon!

SignageStudio / Re: Multi-room conference shedules
« on: June 18, 2014, 03:59:28 AM »
We have a solution for this task. Our component was built specifically for easy self service such as hotel conference room schedules. It utilizes advanced components such as the XMLplayer.  To give some examples of other uses, we have gyms that showcases each class per day and sportsplexs that updates all the the games and what field numbers as well as an image uploaded and cropper tool for optimal screen display. Message me if you want more info..

Any confirmation that this has been added to a bug report?

RSS is important to us...

New features and suggestions / Interactive KIOSK Request
« on: May 29, 2014, 08:28:00 AM »
Hey Guys,

Started building my first KIOSK application and I must say I am VERY excited about what I'm seeing.

I would like to request one thing though... A timer option that resets a timeline after the presentation sits idle for a period of time. People will be clicking through then walk away so the system needs a way to reset back to my desired home page.

Thanks!

Report bugs and errors / rss_caching.xml
« on: May 22, 2014, 08:25:41 AM »
Hello MS,

I have been encountering some issues with custom rss feeds not showing previously cached images when the internet connection is lost potentially after a day or longer. If I lose connection during the day randomly but get connected the same day I do not lose caching - it seems to be a longer internet outage time cache loss.

I have done some testing by killing the internet connection, rebooting the player and not connecting upon start up and the rss items seem to continue to work fine off of the cache

What I have noticed however, is the file rss_caching.xml (located in the appdata - signageplayer - local store) has a very odd behaviour when or if being created.

For example:
  • it may or may not get created when running a custom rss feed for the first time on the player (windows 7).
  • I have forced the file to get created by 'clearing cache' in the signage studio or by stopping the player and starting the player, but then if I delete the xml file manually from the folder it seems I have to wait a short bit to be able to again force the creation of a new one.
  • In the meantime, the signage player still maintains the cached details - as if it is stored in a tmp file somewhere else entirely and then copied into that file location for a more permanent storage? Which could explain the loss if the tmp file is never converted or copied into the permanent file and then the tmp file kills itself especially after a player reboots itself after a day or two of no internet
  • I also notice that the xml file has the following setting expiredTime="21600".

So Im not entirely sure what is going on, if perhaps the code to create the rss_caching.xml file is getting hung up at some point which causes the long term caching loss, but that is my research into the problem - I hope this helps to diagnose the issues.

Thanks,

Andrew

I saw that - but you may not have noticed weird playback since the other 4 files did have audio.

If you don't believe me strip the audio in freemake and play the new files. I'm not crazy and I linked the youtube video for you to see what it does.

At the end of the day, I have the solution to the problem which is to embed a silent audio file into it.

If you choose to disregard my feedback then I guess that's it. Like I said, I now have the solution and I feel comfortable using Android out in the world.

Thanks

Thank you for sharing - I believe I have pinpointed the bug - AUDIO.

I noticed your clips have audio in them whereas mine do not - I pulled the gopro video audio and added the mp3 into my clips using freemake and boom - worked with H264 as the codec.

So... Clips with audio (I used ACC Stero 44100 Hz 320 Kbps) work without the issues described - all but it cutting the video a second short. The exact same clips without the audio layer experience all of the concerns as listed above.

Please add to bug report - In the meantime I will see about re-rendering my video files with a silent audio clip.

Thank you

Could you provide a zip file of the videos you are using so I may test on my end?
Did you produce the mp4 or use free make to convert them?

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

Okay tested.. Any extension as H264 still does the same thing.. Flv flv plays a bit smoother it seems.. Not 100% yet. Please continue to look into the h264 as it does play with the best frame rate. I also notice it cuts about half a second from the beginning and end of a video on release and beta signage software. Hopefully this helps in diagnosing the issues.
