Open source Digital Signage / Re: Key Entry Errors In Web Interface
« on: October 29, 2015, 11:06:58 AM »
Any time frame on this, because it's a pretty important bug.

Also can we get a hexcode entry box for the color chooser? It's really difficult to get the exact hue of the color to match across multiple items when you just have to 'eyeball it'.

If you have to prioritize between the two please focus on the Key entry errors. It's a nerve rattling nightmare. :(

Thanks for your response! :)

Open source Digital Signage / Key Entry Errors In Web Interface
« on: October 20, 2015, 09:37:41 AM »
I've attached a link to a video that showcases a strange behavior when entering text via the studiolite web interface in which keys that are entered will disappear throughout the typing process (observable in the video). There seems to be another related key entry behavior in which after a user types a sentence into the label text box and places the cursor back toward the beginning of the sentence to correct or change something - a few of the keystrokes will appear where the cursor has been placed, but at some point half of the new characters will appear at the end of the sentence in an arbitrary fashion (not shown in this video, but likely related)

This occurs on multiple platforms and devices including:
MAC in Safari and Chrome
Android in Browser, Internet, & Chrome
IOS in Safari & Chrome

Here is the video: PLEASE SKIP TO 3:45 to observe the disappearing character issue while entering the price of "$4.79" to a menu.

I have two players each of which displays the same campaign differently. Player1 is a rk3188 set to HDMI Output 720p and Player2 is a rk3288 set to HDMI Output 720p. The campaign consists of a simple photo box and a second text label positioned directly to its right. The rk3188 displays the campaign properly (I see the photo box and the words "sample text here!" just as I do when I'm designing the campaign inside of studio. However the rk3288 device displays the text too far to the left and behind the photo resulting in seeing the photo box and then only "ple text here!" with the first three letters hidden behind the photo. Any thoughts as to why this is? To rule out the actual television display as being at fault I have tested each device on the same display and the inconsistency persists. Any thoughts? I have tried all of the HDMI Output settings on the problem device with no luck. These settings have included "auto, 1080p60, 720p60, and 480p30"

If I may suggest a tweak for version 2.0

  • The loading screen that appears to users upon uploading resources is identical to the loading screen that appears to users when the web interface freezes which means it can be difficult to assess whether resources are actually uploading or if nothing is happening at allpersonal it would be great if there were an actual progress bar that provided the user precise feedback on what process is occurring vs the current method which simply prompts the user to wait (sometimes indefinitely before having to do a manual refresh)

Thank you for asking.[/list]

Open source Digital Signage / Second Issue Regarding Layers Disappearing
« on: August 20, 2014, 08:10:02 PM »
I'm running a timeline with a full screen division containing a video that loops. On a second screen division above the video I am running a label. Through the course of a day the player will display everything as expected, then several hours in the top screen division containing the label will disappear and not display. The only way to get it back is to restart the station. Any ideas on why this is occurring?

While the issue of new screen divisions being added do appear occasionally to go behind other elements as you have demonstrated in this video it is not the issue I am encountering. I do not have the opportunity to produce a video at this time, but will attempt to succinctly describe in clearer detail.

For instance. If I create a timeline with a single full screen division, populate it with a graphic, and send it to my station then that full screen graphic will display properly. If, however I return to edit that timeline by adding a second screen division, populate it with a label, and click 'bring to top' to ensure that it is going to be above the original full screen graphic, then send to my station with 'Save & Restart'. The full screen graphic will display. The label will not. Now to prove that the issue is not related to which layer is on top ... if I go back and delete the original screen division containing the full screen graphic, then 'Save & Restart' I still will not see my label.

The only way to see both the full screen graphic and the label appearing correctly is to create them at the same time using a fresh timeline. This makes it impossible to modify a timeline at a later date using additional screen divisions. I can always modify the existing screen divisions (change their order, size, and shape, content, etc.) but I cannot add a new division. Which is often the action that is needed.

Thank you for your video. The system does have a tendency to push new layers to be behind old ones even though they appear on top within the editor, but this is a separate problem. Thank you for looking into this.

Open source Digital Signage / Newly Added Screen Divisions Not Appearing
« on: August 19, 2014, 09:16:16 PM »

I've noticed the following issue regarding screen divisions. When selecting a template from the selection list page they work as expected without modification. They also seem to work as expected with modifications (adding new divisions, moving them around, etc.) as long as those modifications are made before the first 'Save & Restart'. However I have repeatedly found that trying to add new divisions to a template that has previously been subjected to the 'Save & Restart' procedure will not work.

Everything appears to be just fine within the StudioLite control interface. Everything saves correctly. The problem manifests on the Player side of things. The new divisions simply do not show up in the presentations.

Can you test and confirm this. It may or may not require more than a single test to see this issue arise because every once in a strange while it will work. So please don't take a single test with results indicating one direction or another as definitive.

Thank you.

Oh wow. Thank you so much for this. It may feel like a small update for you guys, but it's a wonderful addition. Thank you.

Open source Digital Signage / Feature Request: Repeat to Fit
« on: August 12, 2014, 02:50:59 PM »
Hi admin team,

Studio Lite is really great, but there is one issue that is apparently hitting everyone here repeatedly and that is the lack of 'Repeat to Fit' timeline. If one channel is longer than another that has just two items on it then the last item just hangs there until the timeline loops again. Anyway this could be implemented? If it is already there as part of the Pepper.js could you point us to it please. Thanks.

OK, well no embedded fonts in use here. Something else in my code is potentially causing the problem.

@Criley We'll explore this.

@Admin Wow that's a pretty big bug. So are other users reporting HTML Component issues frequently as well because of this? We'll strip all font related CSS and see what happens then report back.

Here is the rundown of our machine, player app, and campaign specs and the issue we are facing. Your feedback, insights, and shared experiences are much appreciated.

We are running:
Machine Specs:
  • Quad core, 2GB DDR3, 8GB Storage Android sticks
  • Android version 4.2.2
  • Signage Player APK version 4.15.19

Campaign Specs:
  • Division #1: Sequences of three images
  • Division #2: HTML Component displaying website containing an auto refreshing DIV for updated content. (We have tried the HTML component with fully static webpages too and the results are the same.)
  • Division #3: Sequence of three more images

The Issue we are facing:
Our players are restarting/crashing every few hours. They don't make it through an entire day without restarting and we do not know what is causing this. We can successfully run other campaigns consisting of photos and videos with zero restarts. So we are hypothesizing that the HTML component is the culprit. Can anyone shed light onto this?

We have a few questions about the HTML component:
  • Is the HTML Component somehow resource heavy?
  • Is the webkit browser finicky about handling certain types of HTML, JScript, PHP, or Ajax?

Thank you for your help in figuring this out.

Thank you admin. Creating a new account addressed the issues.

Report bugs and errors / Re: Android serious video playback bug
« on: July 20, 2014, 05:31:27 PM »
Has any progress been made on the issue of H.264 files showing the last few frames at the beginning of each loop of the video file? H.264 file displays a very fluid full frame rate but the files suffer from two problematic behaviors.

H.264 Files:
  • Display the last few frames of the video at the beginning of each new replay of the file.
  • Do not obey transition commands. They always blink abruptly.

FLV Files (VP-6 codec, not F4v files):
  • Play at a lower frame rate than the actual file has encoded. Resulting in a jerky motion experience.
  • Play reliably from first to last frame.
  • Do obey transition commands and smoothly fade in and out of neighboring content on the timeline.

Both sets of files don't have to be fixed, just one or the other. Android is gaining serious ground in digital signage and has been for quite a while. It would be amazing to have a solid video solution to provide digital signage users.

FYI. Our Android players are running the latest version of 4.15.

Thank you for the fixes admin. They are much appreciated. Thank you again. Quick follow up question - Does the HTML component within SignagePlayer support Flash itself? (i.e. is it possible to display a website with flash elements using the HTML component?)
