Report bugs and errors / RSS Reader does not parse spacing correctly
« on: October 13, 2017, 08:39:56 AM »
I have created a script for Google Docs that takes a document and creates an RSS feed from it. It keeps all the formatting: paragraph spacing, paragraph alignment, (right, left, center), text decoration, (bold, italic, underline) and the text is encapsulated in CDATA within the RSS.

All the formatting comes through and displays perfectly in the Digital Signage player. However, I have noticed that if there are extra spaces within a sentence, the DS player does not display it correctly. It only displays one space instead of multiple ones. In doing research online, the first suggestion was to encapsulate all the text as CDATA, which I have done, but the problem still exists. Additional investigation indicates that the RSS reader ultimately handles how to display sentences with multiple spaces, and they can chose to ignore it.

Here is a link to the RSS feed: https://script.google.com/a/redminnow.com/macros/s/AKfycbwosUauZCSiuYPZvkPSKJ-E4TGNn1fAHvPeilU9wmw2Cpmmesdr/exec
You can see the extra spacing from the result, (if you look at the source code and not through a default RSS reader). However the DS player does not display it that way.

Any suggestions or fixes would be appreciated.

Report bugs and errors / Transition Bug
« on: October 09, 2017, 09:58:45 AM »
This appears to be happening in any 6.x version of the app, but anytime I have transitions set, if the channel is not at the global 0,0 (x,y) location, during the transition the content from the channel always "jumps" to the global X,Y location through the transition and then places itself in its proper local X,Y location on its channel. I have this happening with images from Google Drive, as well as calendar events from Google Calendar. I just tested with a  Collection component and it is doing the same thing.  So in other words, all transition. In other words, every time a transition occurs, the channel content jumps to the upper left corner of the screen during the transition, and then moves to the correct location when the transition is complete.

Report bugs and errors / Google Drive Image Size
« on: October 03, 2017, 11:44:01 AM »
I am not sure if this is a bug or intended usage, but when using the Google Drive component and a JSON item to load/display the image, the application does not resize the image to be within the width/height of either the Google Drive component or the JSON component. This is the case with the "Maintain Aspect Ratio" checked and unchecked. It does not matter. It comes in at its native size.

So if I have a 1920x1080 image but want to display it in a 1440x810 window, (75% full resolution), the image is displayed at full resolution and gets cut off on the right and bottom. Is there a way to resize Google Drive images to fit the size of the component it is in?

SignageStudio / Google Drive Switching Between Folders
« on: October 03, 2017, 08:44:58 AM »
I have a client who has 3 different "sections" of items they want to display in their signage: Work Anniversaries, Birthdays, and Upcoming Events. They are creating graphics for all of these and want to manage them in directories in Google Drive and want the digital signage player to randomly load one from each category in that order: 1st an anniversary graphic, then a birthday one, and finally an upcoming event.

Overall this is easily accomplished in Signage Studio, but as I am creating a 24 hr timeline for the project, but is there a better way then copying and pasting 3 different Google Drive components that are each 10 seconds long over and over again to fill the 24 hr space? I realize I could make it shorter, like to 10 or 12 hours, but the client does not want the screen to go to black, (when the timeline ends and restarts), and that is still a lot of copying /pasting....one element at a time.

Any suggestions are helpful! Thanks in advance!

SignagePlayer / Stopping Player Locally
« on: October 02, 2017, 01:46:41 PM »
How do you locally stop the player now and get back to the player settings? There used to be a button that would become visible if you moved the mouse over the screen, but now it is gone.  Thanks in advance!

New features and suggestions / Use Google Spreadsheets Dynamically
« on: September 14, 2017, 07:33:41 AM »
It would be great to use Google Spreadsheets as a complete data source, and have a scene dynamically create items based on each row of the spreadsheet instead of having to hard-code individual cells for data like the current component works.

You are doing this with other JSON items, including Google Drive and Google Calendar. I do not have to specify which image in Google Drive to use for each JSON item. I just tell it what type (image or title) to display, and it dynamically displays each one of them, whether there is 1 or 100. This would be a great feature for Google Spreadsheets too. I would like the ability to create a scene, where I add JSON Items and select the column that I would like each JSON item to display and then the app would dynamically change the data when it goes to the next "slide" based on the next row of data in the spreadsheet.

In this scenario, the component would need to have a setting to indicate which row to start with, so that if you create a spreadsheet where the first row is the title for each column, the app would exclude that from the display. And it would be great to have one item be an image that can be displayed, where the "image" in the spreadsheet is a link to an image in Google Drive. Below is a rough example of a spreadsheet where the first row contains the column titles and the rest of the rows are data for different "slides" in the presentation....including a reference ID to an image in Google Docs.

Title                         SubTitle                                Story                                                                            GoogleImageID
Overview                  How the System Works           This area is where a long text string would go                 0BxN3o5ISfwfYUzY1SGtYTkJRaXa
History                     How We Got Started               This area is where a long text string would go                 0BxN3o5ISfwfYUzY1SGtYTkJRaXb
Vision                       Where We Are Headed           This area is where a long text string would go                 0BxN3o5ISfwfYUzY1SGtYTkJRaXc

Report bugs and errors / Image transitions under masks bug
« on: September 08, 2017, 01:45:17 PM »
Version 6.0.37
I have tested 2 different types of image slideshows: with the Collection component and using GoogleDrive component. In each case, I want to cycle through a series of images with a cross-disolve transition between each one. They both work fine, but if I put an image mask above either of these, the images pop in front of the mask during the transition and then pop behind the mask (where they should be) after the transition is complete.

I have done this several different ways with the same result. The last was to create a new channel that was at the top-most layer and putting the image mask in a scene. I have also just put the image itself in the channel (with no scene).

Report bugs and errors / Creating Resource Thumbnails Bug
« on: September 08, 2017, 11:22:27 AM »
If I log into SignageStudio with Enterprise credentials and get all users under the Enterprise account, select a user, then launch their SignageStudio app, every time I try to create a snapshot/icon for a resource, the popup window appears under the user's SignageStudio app, (so it appears like it never opens). If I click on the snapshot button multiple times, it opens multiple popup windows under the main app.

So once knowing the popup appears under the app, I can access and create a snapshot/icon. After creating a snapshot/icon, any timeline with that resource in it updates with the proper icon. However, the icon never updates in the Resource folder. I always have the default icon in this location.

If I Save/Upload, close the app, then reopen it, the icons become available in the Resources filder.

I have tested this on a PC with version 6.0.37 and on a Mac with version 5.1.12 and it happens on both.

If you try to Save / Upload from the SignageStudio and internet connection has been lost, the application hangs on the Save/Upload screen. Since there is a modal present, you cannot click on any other buttons within the app. Your only option at that point is to close the application and lose the latest changes.

It would be nice to have a Cancel button on that screen to back out of the Save/Upload in case it is not able to connect to the MediaCloud.

Report bugs and errors / Beta 6.0 and bug tracking questions
« on: September 04, 2017, 06:48:32 AM »
I have a couple of questions regarding SignageStudio 6.0 Beta

I have been using v6.0 beta on and off for a couple of weeks and have found some issues I think are worth reporting. I want to first try and replicate them on a different system to see what is going on but would like to submit these soon.

Specifically for the beta version, do you want these posted in this part of the forum or is there a bug tracking system you use or an email address to send these to?

Also, is there a nightly build version of the beta that we can use, or is there just the original beta release? I keep hearing of some of the planned updates in v6.0 that I do not see in the current beta version and I was hoping those might be rolled out soon to test.

SignageStudio / Animating JSON items in Scene for JSON Player
« on: August 07, 2017, 01:25:17 PM »
I am pulling in JSON data into a scene of several JSON items. I have attached this to a JSON player and the data loads and displays correctly when I play the campaign.

When I go back into the scene and try to animate some of the properties of the JSON items, so that one item fades in and another slides in from off-screen, they play correctly when I test the scene, but those items do not display when I run the campaign again with "live" data. If I set the alpha to go from .5 to 1 on a text field and run the campaign, I do see the text but it stays at 50%. So it appears that the animations are not running. How do you run animations like this? I would like to get similar results as displayed in the Catalog Component video but use external JSON and not internal data.

SignageStudio / Scripting

Has the Scripting Privilege been removed in version 6 of Signage Studio? This was a HUGE reason we moved to this platform!
