Any updates as to successes or failures, or hybrids?

Looking to get a very similar project up and going, need to know if it's worth tackling the microsoft exchange server piece of it.  Or just going to a separate and duplicitous act of different XML editor updating a different XML served page.

Community - Whatever latest insight would be most helpful.

Update:  current standby solution is to use a few old WinXP boxes with old elo touchscreens (disable domain outside local) .  boot to appropriate network folder, office staff then dumps pdfs into and is in charge of "managing" the network folders.  simplify winxp ui to make as easy as possible (esp using touch interface only), as kitchen and waitstaff will need to easily access information based on need.  quick time-out on screensaver, which has picture folder mapped to network folder which HR can input jpegs of company / hr type memo stuff (easily taught how to use free converter software).

this seems ghetto but accomplishes some basic internal communication, no?
thoughts anyone?...

i'd really like to incorporate mediasignage.com software as i'm a firm believer in its capabilities within menus and beyond, just need some help from ya'll as i'm new to this type of deployment.

My flash skills are novice at best, but I'll take a look.  You're right on with the simplicity, I'm looking for something that will show all pdf files in a "container" / folder, since I won't be able to constantly update with new item file names.  Pretty sure the creators/uploaders will be able to maintain contents in a folder...
Thanks for the idea.

After exhausting my google-ing skills for today, I'm reaching out to this collective for some ideas...  Please don't hesitate to fire away... Looking to deploy solution to 5-10 small screens (15" vertical mount LCD?).  Chief content will be word docs (convert to pdf?) that are currently printed, tacked to bulletin board, edited and thrown out as needed for busy seasonal banquet operations.  Would like to allow for a couple images / jpegs / whatever for company logo, employee of the month, etc.

Limited technical knowledge among our content creators and uploaders (I'm comfortable within mediasignage, have 5+ yrs experience now), however I need to keep end-user operation as simple as "... Save As > network folder ", then have folder contents displayed on screen in slideshow format.  ideally like to have ability to use touch interface to swipe between content (word doc - banquet event orders).  Multiple kitchens with multiple dining rooms and multiple back-of-house areas, sometimes as many as 10 BEOs posted at a time, many times 1-2 at a time.  Can't wrap my head around a fairly simple PDF export to folder with slideshow like display.....this is where i'm stuck...

Thanks in advance for anything,

I'm using Enterprise edition solely for the ability to change a cafeteria menu display via a simple webpage interface.  Our business volume ebbs and flows day to day, week to week and can't be held to a set schedule.

All is good to go for about 4-5 hours after hard reboot (had to install simple digital lamp timer to power cycle mediadroid units 1x/day).  After this period of time, mediadroid units again do not respond to requests sent from the simple control webpage.

The stations interface tab in signagestudio still allows the usual controls of the mediadroid (stop, play, update, screenshot), but the mediadroid simply stops responding to the javascript commands sent from the control webpage.

My question:  do the mediadroids/signageplayers need to have a firewall rule (forwarding port as a socket?) setup in order for them to "hear" the javascript commands for longer than a small amount of time?  I'm behind an AT&T 2wire gateway (accessing network via wireless), so I realize it would be make/model specific on a firewall time-out (in re unsolicited requests), however it seems as if there is a separate pipe through which the javascript commands flow instead of the port 80 socket for the signagecontroller.

Please help!  Really don't want to daisy-chain lamp timers for multiple hard reboots! (PS it would be great if the mediadroid units could respond to the signagestudio schedule reboot commands ;)

Thanks,

I too was frustrated with the lack of a reliable way to power cycle the droid 50h. I found through trial-and-error that using the stop, then play buttons, check the "update..." box was very reliable once my wireless internet issues got resolved (sep, unrelated matter...)  Cumbersome if you're hitting multiple machines, but...  This process after "save/update" and NOT checking the "restart stations" box.  I tended to find the reboot or restart station commands would gum up the works with the mediaDroids.

No word on the station scheduler as I haven't used it regularly.  If it seems unresponsive, as it probably uses the same command set, i would recommend scheduling a black screen/image during your "off" or dark times.  I had to do this during some power quality issues/tests.

I was having similar issues around ~mid Nov. (almost always using "restart" or "reboot" within stations).  I chalked it up to a buggy 4.0.96/97/98.  Since then I have been using the following technique for regular updates:  In the stations module, select the desired station, click the "stop" button, then the "play" button - when presented with the "...update... check box/dialog", check update, and ok (and if need by, "save to server").  Seems ridiculous, but it's been my go-to method of late.

ok, thanks for the heads-up.

so when the next-gen mediaDroids are available by "1 HTML" you mean to say that in any particular scene or timeline i can only have 1 instance of an HTML component?  Sorry to be noob - brain is taxed tonight...

I have a 1280x720 scene with 3 smaller scenes embedded.  these smaller embed scenes are cropped HTML links, nothing dynamic.  test works on my intel i3 laptop and both mediaBoxes, however on mediaDroid ZXh i don't see any of the embedded html scenes.  Nor do i see the html when using the individual html scenes straight to a timeline.

am i missing something - is the mediaDroid ZXh not capable of displaying the HTML component?  :(
