Title: Small Player window after a while!
Post by: HVL on March 08, 2017, 04:36:01 AM
Hello all

Have a client with a bug I havnt seen before.

Then machine normally runs fine but after a while it does this

If I log on to the machine with teamviewer, run it full screen and then tab in out of the Player it goes back to full screen and works again without any problems..
So its not the Player that crashes.

Not really sure where to begin on this problem. If its a player bug or a windows feature I need to turn on/off.

And was wondering if others have had this problem and maybe found a solution..

Currently running win7 and version 5.0.68 on the machine.

thnx in advance.

Regards

HVL

I have been using teamviewer for years and have not seen that before.  what version of teamviewer are you using?  Do you have other players with the same setup with the same problem?

For years it has never been a problem for us.

We started with 1 machine. now its up to 2.

Both running Win7 and ver. 5.0.68..

Tried updating to latest version. Will see if that solves the problem.

Strange problem tho, since we have never seen it happen to any other clients.

Could be a hardware problem, try changing cables.

Sorry I did not see this sooner, but I know what this is. I have a couple of players at locations where the customer insists the signage screen works on a power timer and turns off at night. The players are Win7 laptops that have 1366 x 768 resolution screens.  The players continue playing 24/7 because laptop bios doesn't provide for scheduling power on times, and I push all updates at night in case there are problems. So when the 1080p signage display powers down for the night, the laptop shifts to the native1366x768 resolution. Sometimes when the signage screen powers on in the morning, it isn't recognized properly by the laptop, and generates instead what you are seeing. If I reboot the laptop it recognizes the powered up signage screen, adapts to 1080p and all is well. I hate this problem, and the only workaround I've come up with is to schedule signage player to reboot the player one minute after the screen is scheduled to turn on. It's a pain in the ass but it works. Hope this helps. Daniel

Doc,

you may want to look into getting an EDID generator. EDID data exchange is a standardized means for a display to communicate its capabilities to a source device, letting it know what resolution it wants to display. An EDID generator is a small piece of hardware that connects between the laptop and the video display that always sends that resolution information. So even if the video display is turned off, the laptop still thinks it is on and is looking for a 1080p signal.

We have used them many times and they have solved headaches like the one you have. Definitely worth the $40-80 price tag!
