the unit seems to get good reviews and it has good specs.
Not to step on DigitalSignage's toes or anythings, but it seems up to par with the MediaDroid.
Can't the signage controller be configured to work with it? It is rootable..

I bought this week and i'm trying yet. I can tell you that it's very fast and the Andorid 4.1.1 is so much better than the olders. The Coffee Campain run very good (videos).
The only problem i didn't solve yet is the footer menu of the android. Looks like the Player runs behind it. Anyone know how can i solve it?

Our next generation mediaDROID is based on the same chipset and will begin in shipping in Jan with 4.1.1 and a new HTML5 engine, we also removed the bottom bar, added the SignageController among many other enhancements.

Do you have any idea of the price?
Mk808 is about $50.
Any idea to remove de bottom bar?
thanks.

I don't know if this will work, but a quick search led me to this. Search for the "SureLock" app for android.

10x for the reply.
1. the mediadroid is far too expensive. I'd rather tweak the mk808 for 50$ than pay 200$ for a ready device.
2. don't know about the status bar issue. i'm sure rooted devices can be tweaked to hide it.
3. if all fails, I can install ubuntu on it, and use the linux player. right?

I tried ordering both the MK and another similar device and boy did I waste time and over $100.00
The player did not work well, the black bottom bar was always there and the Watchdog I copied over did not work 1/2 the time.
I ended up ordering 2 player from Lawrence and paid $300.00 and all I can say is wow.
The player works flawlessly (we are using it for a food menu board piloting a large nationwide install).
So my 2 cents (more like $100), go with the mediaDROID ZX, you spend a bit more, but you get what you pay for.
Obviously the guys at MediaSignage know what they are doing and the ZX player shows it
Danna.

I would agree about getting devices designed specifically for the end product. They do tend to work better and at least it makes it much easier for support issues as it will remove any unnecessary variables that come with different users and hardware. That being said, I also like to take advantage of my own skills and build my own devices to save a little as well.
Don't forget that Linux is no longer supported by Adobe with Air, and therefore not supported by MediaSignage. I do not believe that will be an option for you.

I found the solution. It worked in another android tv like the mk808 with Android 4.0. I need test in the mk808.
THe program is Hide Bar (ppareit.github.com/HideBar/)
It worked without root for me.
-
I can confirm that my new, stock, unmolested and/or un-flashed MK808 running 4.1.1 works perfectly with the Hide Bottom Bar app. for only $3.49 it was a great solution.
I will post back if anything weird starts happening.
-
The app i posted worked with mk808 too, i confirmed yesterday.
But now, i lost the hdmi and the mk808 died ;D but the others android tv one, are working perfect with Hide Bar.
thanks all

@V2comp: Can you summarise on what all apps have been loaded on MK808 for it to work as a pure signage player and is signage controller part of this?

I know it was not for me, but to help, i used the app Auto Start to Signage Player start on boot and the Hide Bar to hide the bottom bar. I removed all other apps and disabled some native apps from Android too.

There are several stock apps that were included on the device, and I didn't try to defeat any of them. I just got this working yesterday, so there hasn't been a lot of testing time. I am only running a simple beer menu board with just one transition at the moment and no video, but I did play some youtube videos through it before I put the Signage player app on it and they played just fine. I did and am experiencing a few wifi drops, and the wifi signal stays grayed out for 10 to 15 minutes when I first plug it in, then after the signal meter turns blue, it hasn't dropped since.
I don't have (signage controller) in the device unless it comes with the signageplayer app, (which I am sure it doesn't), but the device seems to be running Signageplayer just fine.
I am only running in test mode at the moment, but I plan on putting signageplayer in kiosk mode today and see if that changes anything. I have taken a few pictures of the screens and the included apps, and will be glad to send them to anyone if they want to see whats on the stock device, just give me your email address and I will get them back to you. I am about to load the Autostart app in a few minutes and will see how that works.
-
in just a few minutes, I can confirm Autostart works, but the player still takes from 7 to 10 minutes to connect to wifi solidly without dropping, but signageplayer did infact start exactly as it should. the Hide Bottom Bar app works perfectly, but not automatically, I have to start it each time.
overall, if this unit continues to work even this well, I will be satisfied.
Just to be clear, I have disabled all automatic updates, and several apps like Facebook, Gmail, Youtube and others so I don't receive any popup notifications on the device and I am using an HTC 5v @ 1 amp Mini USB charger cord to power the MK808 instead of the supplied power adapter or the OTG port. I had the charger here from an HTC Tmobile Sensation 4G smartphone, and I had read the some people were having better luck using it than the supplied adapter. I am on a different forum looking at flashing a different rom image, but it seems that some people are having difficulty using it and I don't want to screw anything up at the moment, or at least until the stock rom becomes a problem. I will report any issues if they show up.

I thought i'd add my 2p's worth...
been testing since yesterday, no issues with wifi, tried in two locations, the only issue i had was at home i had to set a static ip, dhcp kept going round in a loop but to be honest i didnt have the patience to wait 10-15 minutes!.
I've tried the taskbar hide app with no problems, there is a setting (disabled by default) to set it running at bootup. From what i can gather this unit comes already 'rooted', i just downloaded superus from the playstore and ran that, allowed the taskbar hide program root access and jobs a goodun.
also downloaded autostart and added signageplayer as the only app.
seems to work fine, doesnt like flash files at all, they do play but it kills the processor. also tried a mini kiosk app as well, it didnt like that either. but to be honest for £50 what do you expect, its a low end player to a low end solution, you want anything fancy then upgrade to a mediabox.
for commercial reasons we will most likely use a mediadroid, but for testing and immediate applications the mk808 is a fine little box.
all that is needed is a way to get the signage controller on it and get rid of the boot up images "Google Tv" and the android boot loader image and we'll have a fab little unit.

I have recent;y purchased the MK808. installed both Hide Bar, Startup Manager and SuperSU works perfectly however the I cant get the monitor to be in full screen.
Can anyone confirm? The Hide bar apps just hide the icon not the bar itself. that's my experience with MK808.

I think it depends on the ROM you will be using. :D

I just got my MK808 today and I installed FullScreen from Google Play and it works very well. No need to root or do anything.
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.tsorn.FullScreen
-
The above app works intermitently. I removed and used the Start Up Manger app. (Search in Google play)
You can change the settings to stop apps, at start up aswell as start them up i.e Signagemedia and FullScreen.
Im still trying to locate the best way in creating a timer for the screen to turn off and on at given timers.
Any ideas?

Try this:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?3375-TVLauncher-2-0
Auto hide the bar on launch.
;D

this solves the bar problem...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.ppareit.hidebar&hl
Works fine.
-
Old topic to end up in.
I would have thought it would have been fixed my now, but just tried the Signageplayer app on my Android device and till there are the menu bar.
I would categorize this as a MediaSignage Glitch
it is one line of code that needs to be atted to the sigangeplayer to hide the menubar.
This is just poor programming, that you have to make a lot of workarounds to make the app work as intended.
It dosent even disable the screen saver so after a short time of not touching the screen it turns off.
-
Should be solved by DigitalSignage for sure!
Also disable the screensaver!
-
Get Fullscreen and Autostart from Playstore - that solved our problem.
-
I can't get fullscreen and Autostart from the app store... the hole point is I don't want to setup a lot of dummy google accounts to make this work.
It should work out of the box and we should be able to deploy the player via our MDM (got the apk package for the Mediaplayer)
-
ShowIT Media, what MDM software are you using for your android devices?
