Report bugs and errors / Re: Google Calendar
« on: April 04, 2016, 11:29:20 AM »
I have tested this extensively with chat on several occasions and they have confirmed that there is a bug. If you need more info, feel free to reach out to me.

I have a suggestion for a new feature that I think most will find very useful.  The feature is having the ability to pre-load content on to a player prior to the player displaying the campaign.  Here is one scenario:
I have a customer that uses the media player on the weekend for events and I update the campaigns during the week prior to the weekend.  During the week, the media player is not connected to the internet so all of the updates are sitting on the server waiting to be pushed to the media player.  So when the weekend comes and the customer turns on the media player to display the content, they have to wait for all the new content to download (the first time until it caches) and anyone viewing the display sees this.  My suggestion is to add the ability to have the media player turn on at a designated time (prior to when it is scheduled to play the campaign) to allow any new updates to download on to the media player before the scheduled play time.  During this "pre-load" time, the screen is blacked out so there is nothing displaying.  Also, for those scenarios where the media player is always on, adding an option to display a pre-selected image or file while the updates happen would be a nice feature.

Thanks for a great product and keep innovating!

A great new feature to add would be the ability to put pictures in the embedded rss feed.

It would be difficult to get into the weeds using this forum so if you want more details pm me.  But at a high level, google sheets can accomplish simple updates if you design the sheets document correctly.  You can also use the twitter component as people are more familiar with this but it does have a character limitation.  You can use an outside service like Contentful which will give you more options but will require setup and additional costs.  Another option is Zapier where you can set up a zap to turn an email into a rss feed however the current version is very limited in control but does have some features.

There are a few ways to accomplish this task and they all have pluses and minuses.  The Google Sheets component can work for this...

SignageStudio / Facebook Token Process
« on: January 20, 2016, 10:47:00 PM »
Wanted to find out if anyone is having issues creating a "non expiring" facebook token.  I have been able to successfully produce a token which expires in 2 months but Facebook won't display the next token which does not expire.  I have already been on chat with media signage so I am reaching out to the forum to see if anyone has more insight or answers.

What makes the world wide web great is also what makes it challenging.  Feeds are added and deleted to the web almost every second.  Although Media Signage has a bunch of feeds in the application, many of them have been turned off by their owners.  It would be great to have an updated list however that would require someone constantly monitoring availability.  From my experience, you are better off paying for licensed feeds that will work when called upon.  Screenfeed, datacall, digichief, bluefox, etc., are a few of the many options out there that will work consistently.

Thanks for the idea ANOOP.  I checked out zapier and ifttt and they both have some pretty cool backend tools that I think the media signage could benefit from.  Anyway, although not elegant, I did find a way to accomplish the task by using google drive and ifttt.  If anyone is interested, I would be happy to share info.

SignageStudio / Calendar picture delivery

Looking for some advice on how to display pictures on certain days.  Google calendar fills the need of being able to display certain text on specific days that a customer can use.  The picassa and other components allow you to display pictures but without a calendar control.  I would like to not only display text but also display an image(s) on specific days. Either along with the text or without any text.  This needs to be accomplished outside of the media signage environment as my customers do not have access to the software.  Does anyone know a way to accomplish this?

yes...It was working when I initially tried it (shortly after release) however I haven't had the need for it until recently. Some pictures show and some do not. Does not appear to be associated with a particular account (as some will display).
