SignagePlayer / Air Player campaign issue after software update
« on: December 07, 2009, 08:35:04 AM »
Issue - Cannot change Campaign on AirPlayer after software update.

- Updated studio player to 1.8.175.
- Updated AirPlayer to 1.8.175, previously running 1.7.106.
- Changed the Campaign on the player from Studio and applied the changes to the player. The studio showed that the campaign on the player has been changed.
- Went to check the player and it was still running the older campaign!
- Tried all combination's of rebooting, re-updating both Studio and player... nothing worked.

Finally, I had to unregister the player and and re-register it. That fixed it. "Luckily this was not one of my PRODuction players."

Moral of the story - Don't update your players unless its a major fix!

Just wanted to share my experience to help others.

Cannot get the HDMI sound to work on the new Ubuntu player. Is there standard documentation on this? couldn't find anything in the blackbox manual about hdmi on ubuntu.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for the tips for resolving Keyring issue.

About the Flickering, our signage is using a simple SWF file that connects to an external server to read a Media RSS feed, parses the information and gets the respective content from the server. This is happening all in Flash, don't think there is any HTML component involved.

It has been a challenge so far :)

1. Keyrings issue with wifi connector - The wifi manager was asking for the default keyring everytime it tried to connect. This is a Ubuntu "Feature" :) . I had to follow the steps from this link to fix that - http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2776815&postcount=1

2. Wifi Auto connect on boot doesn't work! The wireless connection is setup to auto connect, but it never does it on Boot. I have to manually initiate the connection. Still trying to find a solution to this.

3. AirPlayer crashes - We are testing with a content provider. It works as a SWF file, which downloads content (images) from an external server. It is a very small loop of 1 minute. It seems to be working fine, but I saw the player crashing at least 3 times in one hour. Sent you the crash log files in a separator email. Please help me figure this out.

4. Image Flickering - I also noticed that there is little flickering on the image every once in a while. Not sure if its Ubuntu, the AirPlayer running on Ubuntu or hardware.

Hope this helps.

SignageStudio / SWF templates and access to local files
« on: October 20, 2009, 07:05:30 AM »
Kudos to Media signage architecture and development team for a powerful software.

I have been playing around with the tools and am trying to figure out a way to templatize our SWF files. The idea is to separate the presentation logic from content (text, images) using XML files. I looked at the External Resources tutorial video and it talks about linking to an external resource, but none about something that resides on local system (on the server, in resources folder).  My questions are -

1. Can it be done with Studio? If yes, what are the steps?
2. Can we link more than one file with a particular swf?
3. Would the swf file embedded in a campaign be able to read it at run time, from the AIR player?
4. Will this config/xml file be cached on the AIR player?

Answers to these questions would help me make some critical decisions.

Thanks a lot in advance.
