The reason I can not upgrade to 4.0 is, as I stated in a previous post, I am running powerpc processor mac mini's which are not compatible with Adobe AIR 3.4.  I need to just stick with the signage player I had, but I am not longer able to because it keeps auto updating.  Is there a link or a file I could get with the previous signage player?

This is in my opinion a very urgent issue, and has been since the ad-engine stopped working a while ago. We were also migrating to use the ad-engine, but were cut off midway.

How about running the video through a HTML component with the <video> tag from html5? Supports autoplay... It might be a bad idea, but worth a try.

Code: [Select]
<!DOCTYPE html>
<title>Autoplay Test</title>

<video width="320" height="240" controls="" autoplay="autoplay">
  <source src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/63530996/video01.mp4" type="video/mp4" />

Upload the above to a site and refer the HTML object to it. Also, tweak the height and width to the correct values.

mediaPLAYERS, Hardware and accessories / Re: Dual Audio Output Mediabox???

This is actually quite a problem. I was going to suggest, that unless you needed to have separate audio outputs, you could just use a passive splitter from the audio, but that won't work. If you do this, the screen with VGA+minijack will have the audio, but the HDMI screen will not be listening to the incoming audio from the minijack. I have bad experiences with passive splitters for the mediaBOX, so I wouldn't recommend those.

Does cutting the power or killing the player-process work? I realize this may not be an efficient way to do it, though.
Have you attempted pressing the "clear player caching" in the stations-tab? Second button from the right (looks like an eraser).
Just a thought.

I've also experienced some buffering issues in terms of running a slideshow of .jpegs, but I don't think I can relate to the main window issue. Some elements of your campaign shows up (after a while), but the main window does not? Is it the background we're talking about, or is everything black? Have I understood it correctly?

General discussion on the mediaSERVER / Re: Who recommends mediasignage?

It''s easy, and inexpensive.  I know some folks want to have a "server", but unless you are looking to share private information (which I would NEVER recommend over digital signage anyway), then having your stuff in the cloud just has so many advantages.

My only advice would be to pay the $99.00 per month for enterprise (for the extra features).

Tech support (Joe and I are on a first name basis...lol) has always been awesome to me.

I can't speak to Mac, as I am a certified Apple hater :-)...but our clients are happy with the product, and the studio is fairly intuitive (even for a non-design) guy like me.  I've had one issue that was quickly corrected, and the support here is good as well.

That's my two cents, take it for what it is worth.

I agree with jmaddox's reasoning on the mediaSERVER. I see no reason to use it whatsoever.

Unless you've already invested in an army of Mac Minis for running the SignagePlayer, I would stay clear of Mac. Yes, it is compatible, but it isn't what the software is designed for. The update process is also a pain, apparently.

What kind of distribution system are we talking? What kind of signal does it usually distribute? There is nothing special about the HDMI output of the mediaBOX, so if you plug a laptop with hdmi-out to the system, you can see if it works. Only problem might be signal amplification, but that isn't an issue regarding HDMI.

What are your reasons to buy a mediaSERVER? We've been slowly but steadily rolling out a mediaPLAYER/BOX network for a couple of months now, and the system is running.

I think I'd recommend mediasignage primarily because of the pricing. I've done quite a bit of research regarding cost of the software required to enter the digital-signage market, and there's no discussion that mediasignage is by FAR the cheapest. The mediaBOX'es are cool and nifty, and really well designed, but the software is really what makes mediasignage a great deal. What you're paying compared to what you're getting in the software is incredible. Amazing customization, features and endless possibilities.

The software lacks in the stability department, but when you buy the mediaBOX'es, this somewhat cancels out. By using TeamViewer as well, you'll be in the clear.

I'm going to be honest about the support though. I'm not really satisfied with the roadmap/planned features of signagestudio. It seems like this 'admin' account on these forums has some somewhat distorted ideas about when things are going to release/come out of beta/etc..

Live support and technical support are great, though. If you live in the states, Live support should be a bit more available than in Europe (where we live). Technical support is great too, both regarding documentation (countless videos describe all the features very thoroughly) and returns. We had a broken external PSU shipped to our location, and all it took was a couple of photos and an order-confirmation to get a new one within 3 days. Compared to the fact that (as mentioned) we live in Europe, I consider that overall a success.

If you're satisfied with the features the software has right now, I would most certainly recommend SignageStudio, SignagePlayer and the mediaBOX. We haven't been in need of the mediaSERVER, and I don't foresee that we will in the near future.

Sources: I've been in charge of this project. I can't really remember if I've missed any important aspects of this overall recommendation, but feel very free to to PM or write another response here, and I'll answer/elaborate asap.

EDIT: I just remembered something that might be worth considering as well. The SignagePlayer is not optimized very well. You should deliberately over-estimate the hardware-requirements if you want to run things smoothly without a doubt. The mediaBOX 3 (quad core) works like a charm.

So even a more powerful configuration would produce similar results?

Anyway ... can't wait till October than to see your new product :)

If the quality is set to 'low' internally in the android player, no matter the greater the processor, the quality will have a shallow color-depth.

Also looking forward to the mediaDROID. Sounds incredible.  :)

is 2.6ghz or better really required???

Short answer: Yes. Do not rely on the build-in computer in the TV. It more than likely is not enough.
Long answer: It depends on the amount of objects/animation you plan on displaying. If you only need to display a single solid block of color that never changes, you don't need a dual-core. If you do, however, plan on using interchanging content and animated sequences, you really really should use a computer that matches the required specs.

Even if OP's hardware-specs are insufficient to play video smoothly, but what about the colors? It looks an awfully lot like the color-depth of the playback isn't the same as the original video.

SignageStudio / Re: Dynamic content?
« on: August 14, 2012, 11:23:54 PM »
As far as I'm concerned, there is no way to do what you want, with the current modules in SignageStudio.
I think I saw admin write somewhere, that the developers are redesigning the ad-engine to support 'ad-packages' that you can easily edit.

If you were only using images, you could've used the HTML-element to link to an external server (ftp), and show the images with a javascript slideshow. I wouldn't do that with video, though..

Hi there,

We really appreciate all the hardwork the mediasignage team has put in for all the new/improved features and I'm really looking forward to the final 4.0 :)

Though allow me to say, the feature to remove the cross fades between resources is very important and should receive some priority.

Why more than others? Because this is what the customer and the customer's customers sees.
This is especially jarring when you have video playback. As both the sound and image is heard/seen.

So together with the other users here, I hope this can be fixed really soon or at least suggest something we can do to minimize the fades.

Thank you!

We didn't add it to 4.0, since it is part of a MUCH larger release 4.2 which will include dozens of new hardware accelerated GPU transitions.
So when we deliver it, it will be done right!!! Sorry for the delay, but it will be worth the wait ;)

I realize how it must be for your costumers to attempt managing your schedule, but I completely agree with th. Is there no way you could provide a solution to this very wanted and urgent issue? To be honest, I'd rather have this now, than GPU hardware-acceleration later. You don't have to provide a fully documented and versatile solution. Just a simple fix or a parameter that disables cross-fading on all of the campaign.

Again, I apologize for attempting to manage your schedule. I just find this need to perfect before releasing anything unnecessary.

What is the reason you don't want to convert to .swf? Could you supply a screenshot of the issue?
