version 6 fully uses hardware acceleration (GPU) so the code base is different. and behaves differently.  also if you switch to the newest platform i.e. the Sign Studio and Sign Player, you will need Combined Desktop to get multiple screen.

IGCC is automatically included on newer windows using Intel HD/UHD Graphics and thus explains its availablility in Microsoft Store.  NVideo has their own (called Spanning)

note that the old Signage Studio and Signage Player are now on Legacy Status - we in fact are now calling them Legacy Studio and Legacy Player.  We will no longer do bug fixes on them nor will we update/add features to them.  we will however continue to support Legacy Studio and Player customers so long as there are people using them.

Hi admin thanks for the hack.
I will try this work around but at the moment it is not needed because signage player v4 is doing it's job as it should.
But why one must do all this to fool signage player v6 to play campaign correctly.
Shouldn't you be trying to fix this so user shouldn't have to use Intel Graphic Command Center (IGCC).

What has changed in player V6 to behave like this?

Am I using wrong version of Signage Studio to create campaign for player v6 to behave different to previous versions?

Regards.

for the newer version of the player, you can set up what we call the Combined Desktop where you make the app think that your system has one display whereas you actually have 2 or more.  to do this, go to Microsoft Store and install the Intel Graphic Command Center (IGCC) and start combining your monitors.  once that set up, simply launch version 6.x player and it will think you only have one display.  Note that this is different from Windows Extended Display Mode.

for a complete guide, refer to this document: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/graphics/IGCC_Collage_UserGuide_10thPlus_Gen.pdf

Hi, I was talking about older version of Signage Player for windows OS.
My computer hardware is configured correctly. Two identical 32" monitors connected with HDMI cables and set to Extend Desktop mode.
Campaign correctly set for two FHD screens in Signage Studio v6.4.10 running on Windows.

Latest Signage Player v6 will not play correctly but older signage player v4 is playing perfectly on same hardware with same settings.

hi admin, we have it setup running on or store front window glass which is a large display almost 3m wide @ 16:10 resolution through a projector, as that aspect ratio gives us the best coverage that we would like, thanks for clearing up how the system / player cache works - this is exactly what is happening and we understand why it has those intervals in between play lists. Yes we will will probably drop the resolution down to the next level 16:10 resolution to maintain aspect ratio, in the mean time we gout around this issue by exporting the playlist as one single video @2560 x1600, total file size is about 170ish mb, and the compute stick seems to working with this, we have had it running for 3 days straight so far, good to know we can drop the res and output a smaller file size for the cache issue - but the solution is now clear - we just need a higher grade player :-) Thank you.

for under powered devices such as Intel Compute Stick which uses Atom or Celeron processor, we often experience performance issue during video playback.  a 2560x1600 video is actually big for these class of devices unless it was compensated by reducing the frame rate or video bitrate.  not everyone will notice quality at lower frame rate and bitrate. if you are using less than 32" display, it will not be apparent at all - all the more if you are using a tablet size screen. but for those using 4k displays, it may be noticeable when watching up close.

at a first few rotation, if the gap between video is more than a second, its possible the cache is not complete. if there are alot of videos, it may take 2 or 3 rotation for the videos to cache.  if after several rotation, the gap is longer than 1 second, it would mean you media is too large for the player to load from the cache - which leads to the performance issue we are referring to earlier.

if the player does not loop continuously, that implies the player is crashing.  try with images if the playlist loops then with lighter videos (1280x720 24fps videos) and see if they work

best regards

Hi all , first post here, we have been trialing the sign studio software and so far its working great. Thanks a lot to Ron for tech support !

Our test pc's are intel stick pc's and after doing a search on the forum for similar issues, we have realised that the stick pc is underpowered for this application = however we have not had any issues with video playback so far.

The issue we have is that we have a scene setup with a playlist with about  7 videos 30 - 60 seconds, ranging in size from 15mc to 49 mb @ 2560 x 1600 resolution, videos run fine however after playing one video, there is a long pause were nothing plays , then the next video starts. We understand that the player pc caches the content locally so videos should play consecutively one after another, however we are finding that this is not the case.

we would like to know if this is a limitation on the underpowered player pc, or there is some setting in the playlist timeline to set transition times in between videos in the playlist ?

Also if we want to have the scene playback the playlist infinitely how do we set that ? In Scene Settings / Player Config/ duration is set to 10 by default, can we delete the numbers here and not set any numbers to make it playback infinitely ?

Thanks in advance !

Yes, it is possible to download an older version of the Windows desktop player to test your Campaign. You can visit the manufacturer's website or other reliable sources to find and download an older version of the software. It is also recommended to check if the issue with the multi-monitors is caused by hardware or software settings, and adjust them accordingly. Additionally, make sure the graphics card driver is up-to-date and the displays are properly configured in the operating system settings.

Hi, Just to update on this, I found old Windows desktop player version 4.34.9 and all is working as it should.
So Latest Desktop Player version 6 is broken and not fully ready for deployment.

Is there way to download older version of windows player to test Campaign?

At the moment second screen is staying blank or over stretched low resolution.

Thanks.
