Title: Clean Setup Issues (Importing Shared Scenes)
Post by: theodolus on October 06, 2013, 01:26:12 PM
Per the post in this thread:,1916.0.html (,1916.0.html),  imported scenes were supposed to be available on Media Server 4. I'm currently on 4.11.85, this being a brand new install, and I'm unable to import shared scenes. Is there a trick to this? Is it even available?

I also have a strange issue with my server showing as having only 1 signage player license. However I ordered 8. I'm guessing this is something that I should contact customer service about, but I wanted to make sure to record it as being an issue. I'll also use this thread for any other issues that might come up.

I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of being able to import the cloud resources seeing as how the local server is advertised as being the same as the web version but stored locally. I (as well as many others judging by the number of posts I've found about it) didn't think it was unreasonable to assume that I would be able to import the web resources and scenes in to my local server. Since this server is located at a remote site going across satellite, running off the web is unreasonably slow. However doing a single download of the needed resources and scenes would be an acceptable part of a one time setup.

Regarding access to the shared resources, I completely agree with you... I've complained many times that the people with the free software having something the paid customers don't have is totally backward and wrong.

Wow.  You're right, that is a huge cop-out.  That's a new excuse.  In the past they said they were 'working on it'... that it was 'on the roadmap.'

Apparently, they've plain given up on it.  Can't say I'm surprised.  I am, however, extremely disappointed.   I fail to understand why customers that PAY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING have features that those of us who've invested thousands do not have.

I removed the post that had the info from our customer service since it was not 100% accurate and I didn't want to mislead people who read the post...

The reason why we can't share the scenes is due to a licensing agreement with the artist that created the resources for us.
we tried to make a deal with him in the past unsuccessfully and I will make it a priority to contact the artist again and see if we can work it out once more.

Thank for the support.

Admin: See, now that actually makes some sense. This information should have been publicly given on the record and re-iterated every time someone made a complaint about it. I also would have preferred if you had left the existing post and just made an 'editor's note' at the bottom that there was more accurate information located below. Removing the entire post smacks of censorship. Even just removing the specific quote would be better than yanking the whole thing. Your customer service folks should be educated on the actual reasons behind this since they are the most likely point of contact for information regarding this stuff. You should also talk to your marketing guys and have them put some sort of a specific note in the sale literature that online resources will not be available in the standalone mode.

Also, a secondary suggestion: allow the standalone folks a way to import and export scenes and resources so they can share unlicensed items between each other. That would go a long way as a gesture of good-will to those who have purchased your software and felt cheated by the lack of resources.

^^ Completely agreed, theodolus. I also find it extremely odd that whenever this subject is brought up, the answer as to why it can't happen is different.  Real odd.
