It would be helpful if one could zoom out on the the stage area in the scene editor.
If your stage is set for full HD, then it requires that your editing or composing system
exceed this by a significant margin, if you want to see the full stage without panning.
Or at least consider putting the playback control on a frame that doesn't move when
you pan the stage.  Its a hassle right now if you pan to the RHS of the stage.  The
playback control disappears on the left side.  And since you need to be stopped and
at the beginning of the playback to edit, you have to constantly pan back and forth.

Report bugs and errors / station preview
« on: May 27, 2010, 06:59:51 AM »
The player/player preview doesn't work for me (browser version).
I'm on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv: Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
The background seems to load then gives this error msg (see below).
Its seems to be playing fine on the station (except for the catalog player bug).

Error was sent to server for further investigation.
sorry for the inconvenience
Error #1009

Report bugs and errors / catalog player
« on: May 26, 2010, 07:06:12 AM »
Something happened in one of the updates.  I'm using the catalog player application and it used to just cycle through the catalog.  Now it seems to get stuck on the last entry.  Has anyone noticed this problem?  I updated the player s/w and am on 2.0.196.

SignageStudio / change login account name
« on: May 20, 2010, 07:14:50 PM »
I would like to rename the login userid to the account that manages signage studio.
For example:
  existing:  peter@gmail.com
  new: signage_editor@gmail.com

Is there a way to do this?  Or somehow zip up all the content and move it across accounts?
I know I never should have used a personal email to set this up.  What are my options?

Report bugs and errors / Lost all my label text
« on: April 14, 2010, 08:57:56 AM »
At some point, all my label text got scrubbed out on multiple scenes I had composed about 1 month ago.
It is a mystery what happened.  I've gone back into the scene editor and all this content is missing.  The resource is still placed but the text inside the lable is totally missing.  Really.
This is on A LOT (looks like all) of my scenes so this is a MAJOR HASSLE!
Any ideas?  Its not just a font color issue or missing font.  The stuff is gone.  I only noticed now (it a long story;  the system was put on ice for a few weeks and I was just trying to get it running again).

Is there a way to preview the timelines that I build in the schedule environment?  When I trigger the URL on the Outputs, I was hoping that the different timelines would be previewed, depending which one I select.  This doesn't seem to happen.  I'm not even sure which timeline it selected.
It would be nice to be able to test out a timeline sequence for flow and transitions.

You guys must wonder what users do with your nice s/w.  I'm documenting this with the hope that it might save someone else some time.  It is sometimes hard to know if something is a bug.
If you set the "global" properties on a scene (in my case blur and alpha fade), it can prevent me out from observing if a resource that I placed on the stage of that scene was selected.  I can select it from the outline tab but the handles of the instance don't appear on the stage to indicate that it has been selected.  Maybe its my alpha and blur settings that also affect the "handles" on the instance extents window.  I didn't explore this too much.  It just took me a bit to figure things out.  It would seem that I inadvertantly set the blur and fade on the scene level.

SignageStudio / How to set hourly status update?
« on: March 08, 2010, 09:06:56 AM »
Is there an easy way to setup the schedule so say a weather update could happen every hour?  Only lasting 30 seconds.  You can setup a daily repeat but nothing like hourly.  Right now I'd have to setup 16 daily schedules, each starting at a different time.  Any ideas?

Report bugs and errors / Minor bugs in schedule tool
« on: March 08, 2010, 08:55:53 AM »
Minor bugs in the schedule tool.
1)  the pattern name doesn't get updated in the "rules" window.  Mine seem stuck on the default of "pattern" even when I update the name field in the properties window.
2)  if you set a start date and time in the PAST, then that pattern starts and doesn't seem to stop regardless of the settings in properties.  Not such a big deal but can be a bit disconcerting when just trying to learn the scheduler.
3)  Under some circumstances, the timeline can go past 23:59:59.  It seems to have stopped doing this, now that I fixed the setting for events past.
This PAST restriction is a bit of a hassle.  Say that you want to configure things to start at 7:00am every day and run all day, and you are working on this at 10:00am on your development system.  Can't really test it.

SignageStudio / Help on Media RSS/Podcast and Photo Shuffle.
« on: March 07, 2010, 06:11:26 PM »
I'm using the Media RSS resource to pull a tagged photofeed from Flickr.  Seems to work OK but I'd like to change the timing.  Make it about 10 seconds.  It is not obvious how this can be done.  I tried using the "Photo Shuffle" scene after importing and couldn't figure out how to add my own pictures.  Yeah, I'm a bit slow. I figured out how to remove pictures and add defaults.  But the "drag and drop" that is implied in the label doesn't seem to work for me.  It just hangs.  I source code is nice but it is going to take me some time to sort through it without the documentation.  Now if that was available, it would be nice!

Report bugs and errors / Timeline duration changes
« on: March 07, 2010, 11:24:05 AM »
The campaign editor doesn't seem to like modification of the timeline duration.  I just created a timeline of 01:00 duration.  If I change this duration (longer), it is nearly impossible to add content outside the original 1:00 duration window to the channel.  You can force it by messing with the offset time and duration.  This also might explain some odd behaviour I had when I tried to shorten a timeline and could not seem to get it updated to the signage player.  It continued to play as if there was no change.  So I suspect there is something up with the timeline.  I recall it never working quite right in previous releases so this bug might have been around for awhile.  Good luck!

I thought that some others might be interested in our trials using an ASUS Eee Box 1006 platform for a signage player.  I bought a few last year from Amazon.com for $280.  I was attracted to this platform for a few reasons:
1)  HDMI output (most of the lower cost Eee Box only output on VGA)
2)  HDMI sound channel (not always supported on HDMI video link from PC)
3)  ATI Radeon GPU acceleration (should work with Flash10 deployment)
4)  Built in WiFi 802.11n
5)  Size (fits behind the screen and includes a mounting bracket)
6)  Price (lowest cost I could find with HDMI output and with HDD)

It happens to run WinXP.  They don't sell a Linux version.  Perhaps there is a GPU drivers issues.
* Beware if you want to run full frame 1080P video! * This box would only work in this circumstance if
your video was encoded such that the GPU h/w would be used (H.264?).  And likely only in
720P, rather than 1080P.  For most of our simple animation, it seems to work fine.
We are avoiding support for full frame HD video since we don't want to look like a TV channel.

One of the units we received acted strangely upon boot up; once in a while it would go to
a windows recovery mode.  Seems to be fine now with the BIOS update fix (Dec. 2009).
It comes with a nice wireless mouse and wireless keyboard.  Overall, I'm quite happy so far.
They have been running pretty much continously since December.

I haven't tried the mediabox from mediasignage so unfortunately I can't do a proper comparision.
By the sounds of it, it is a much more capable box.  But I think as the ATOM platform matures
and increases in performance, it will be nice to have a low power and low cost option.
I haven't grappled with the prospects of having to manage 1000 controllers based on a consumer
platform.  I'm sure that at some point, switching to a commercial platform would make sense.
ATOM is evolving quickly right now so I'd rather stay on the consumer track right now.

Report bugs and errors / Music player doesn't seem to work
« on: March 06, 2010, 07:06:37 PM »
I'm trying to see if the music player will work for a client.  I uploaded some mp3 for a trial.  I could create channels of music but they would not rename as per the video demo.  This seems broken.  I can delete the channels fine.  I can also add the mp3 songs to the channel.
When trying to assign the channel to a station, the pop up tool doesn't recognize the channel.  It shows up as a "channel" on the drop down list but it doesn't hold the selection.
I'm running 1.9.147 studio.  And just upgraded to the same for the player. No improvement.
BTW, it would be nice if the meta data for the MP3 was available and could be displayed in some way.
My client would like to promote local artists.  Right now I don't have an easy way to show the track playing.  It seems like a bit of a hassle to setup a flash app media player or setup a media RSS feed with the tracks.

Report bugs and errors / Getting snap shot of my player
« on: February 24, 2010, 10:24:18 AM »
Does the snapshot feature work?  Or is it because my connection stoplight (red, yellow, green) is stuck at yellow?  I can't ever recall it running green.  Also, is some sort of window supposed to pop up when I ask to ping the player from the studio app?  Last one, how are people doing remote management of their signage players?  VNC?  Do you open up the port on the router and get access that way?

Report bugs and errors / Label Resources used in scenes
« on: February 24, 2010, 09:25:37 AM »
I'm creating a new topic, even though this applies to v1.9.  It might be easier for people to know the issue being tracked.
It seems that something changed in how you are managing labels.  I'm running v1.9.132 signage studio and any edits I make to a label (content, formatting) doesn't immediately get updated in the view.  I'm pretty sure that this is a change, for the worse.  The work around I have found is to force a reload by flipping to another scene and back.  Then it appears.  A bit of a hassle.  Triggering an upload/save to the server doesn't have any effect.
Just thought you guys should now.
