StudioPro and Flash.
« on: July 18, 2020, 12:57:14 PM »
Hello guys,

I´ve read that flash will not be available at the end of 2020.
So, how does this affect Studiopro desktop? Will this still work? So far as I know (correct me if I´m wring) StudioPro is developed with flash, right?

Greetings.

the exe version will continue to work but we may no longer will be able to support if after flash and air is discontinued.

the dev is also working on a replacement platform which will be released before the end of the year.  the new platform will no longer need adobe air nor flash.  we will announce its release thru mass email

Hello Admin,

Are we still expecting to have a replacement platform released before the end of the year?

And are there any plans for a SignagePlayer solution that doesn't require Flash as well?

Hello Admin,

Flash end of life has been known for a very long time, almost two years how?  Why are your updates still in development?  I've paid for Enterprise services for almost ten years and it seems like I constantly keep hearing that the next big thing is still in development.  Shouldn't you have been ready for when Flash was turned off, especially since your entire platform is so heavily dependent on it and AIR?  Embedded digital signage is also now broken with the demise of Flash yet as an Enterprise user, I receive absolutely no emails letting me know what will break or of your plans to keep things running or fix.  You sure don't miss invoicing me every month, though.  Can we please have more transparency as to your development plans and timelines and moving forward, can Enterprise users please be given the customer service we deserve and pay for?

Thank you.

Any updates on the Flash-less versions of the software now that we've entered Q2?

we had a major setback in development and as such development has been delayed. we have no official word yet as to the target release.

Thank you.

if the issue is your web studio, we advise you to ask your customer download studio pro.  you can download the latest version and then host them at your server so that the download link will be at your server.  if the issue is web player, we have to wait for the release of the new PlayerJS.  embedding is one of the many features available even in free but because we have many more features, we have to prioritize based on what most customers use.  since previewing for example is the most common use for it, as early as version 6.2 (released 2019), we already have a built in full screen previewer so there is no need to launch a browser just to preview the campaign.

if you noticed that as early as 2019, in anticipation of the end of Adobe Flash, we have already begun making changes. first was to address Signage Studio Pro users who are mostly using Windows and/or Mac and the deployed players for Windows and Android. since the Flash runtime is built into these applications, they are therefore not affected by Flash's demise.  you do not need to download and install runtime modules separately.  note that we have also added Simple Mode for those Studio Lite user who wish to take advantage of the previewer.  thus Studio Lite (except for the preview part) and Studio Pro will continue to work.  But note that we can no longer do any bug fixes nor have any new feature added to them since we can no longer maintain them without having support for the development platform namely for Adobe Flash and Adobe Air. which leads to the second part of the plan which has been to develop a replacement using a newer platform technology. We have been working on SignStudio to replace Signage Studio Pro and Studio Lite and working on PlayerJS to replace both Windows and Android Signage Player ultimately.  this will allow us to expand support for other OS and devices other than Windows, Mac and Android thus both SignStudio and PlayerJS will truly become platform independent and will no longer be restricted to what only Adobe Flash/Air supports.

this development is a big undertaking and despite the current crisis we are all in, not only do we focus on development but also doing our best in giving support to the customers and maintaining our servers upkeep among other things - this is where your enterprise subscription goes to.

we hope that this give you a better insight of our plans and we will continue to do our best.

best regards

Hello Admin,
Appreciate the update and transparency...We have an enterprise account, and have had for many years, and we DEPEND on your services to run our business.  This type of information is important to me and our business as we also are trying to manage technology and physical resources to match the current customer climate.  Your unique service offering is a great match for our business use case and allows us to meet the demanding needs of our customers.  I am in favor of any development to improve your products and or services and appreciate when something is added or updated.

In the spirit of continuous improvement and constructive feedback, there are a few things, that I think, are important to manage in terms of a client/user relationship.  Some users may not care about what development is happening as their use of your services is not critical to their operations.  In our case (I am sure there are many others as well), we heavily rely on your services to manage our business.  I don't mind that this major update is taking more time as I have been involved in enough projects to understand the complexity of a technology stack.  We just don't want any surprises...My suggestion is to develop a better communication platform for enterprise users.  I have never really liked having to come to the forum to find out what is happening with your products and services.  As an enterprise customer, I would appreciate some type of communication letting me know what is happening in terms of development and updates over some regular interval.  Maybe that is an enterprise area of the website, maybe that is an email, or some other type of communication.  Having an open, 2-way, communication channel with your enterprise users will not only make for happier customers but also can improve your product and service offerings.

In closing, we love your development ambition and your flexible service platform.  If you want to improve your business, my suggestion is to communicate openly and often so your customers stay informed and part of the development process.

Thank you for reading

Could you describe in detail how to download and run Studio Pro under the Free Plan ?
I have been unable to run Studio Pro since Flash was gone.

Thanks

as explained in the post of last April 22, 2021, our development had a big set back due to pandemic and because of this, we still have no official release date.  rest assured though that we are committed and have not given up. we are simply unable to announce the official release date as this is a large undertaking. we do not wish to release a half-baked product so we can only ask for your patience and understanding
