Signage Player stops and doesnt autostart on Mac Mini's
« on: October 26, 2010, 11:28:14 AM »
We are having this issue with multiple Mac Minis.

I had a chat with David in support and he said we needed the new mac mini with 2.8ghz dual core so we purchased it and are still having the same issue.

Any suggestions?

Was this issue ever resolved.  We are using Mac Minis (3,1) and experiencing the exact same issue.  The signagecontroller reboots the mini's at just after mid night every day but the signageplayer never restarts.  The console shows clearly that it is signagecontroller forcing the restarts but I've been on with tech support and even called and the issue has never been resolved.

Yes, we did find the issue... it has to do with a reboot flag of the "Daily reboot station".
Can you test it in the latest release?
And let me know if still an issue, and in any case, if you disable the "Nightly" reboot condition, this will solve your issue.

Let me know,

Regards,

I installed the latest build (2.2.1085) and even ran all the install scripts again but the same thing happened.  I set the time to just before midnight and at 12:00:04, the KillAll Reboot message shows up.  This time though, it just froze and didn't actually reboot.  I waited almost 3 minutes and then just killed the app.

Then I noticed the latest version of AIR wasn't installed so I updated that to 2.5.x and tried the whole thing.  This time, I noticed that when the SignagePlayer.app first launches, it shows that SignageController is "Polling Every 60 Seconds" (yellow text).  So maybe the Controller isn't running right now?

Where/how do you disable the "Nightly" reboot condition you talked about?

If you want to disable the nightly reboot, to to SignageStudio > Stations > Select the Stations > Reboot Conditions and disable it

If you are having issues connecting to our server you must have issues with a local firewall.
We support both LIVE Sockets as well as HTTP Polling.
Under the SignageStudio  > Stations you may get 3 color indicators:

Yellow: connected via Polling
Green: connected via live socket
Red: not connected at all
To learn more about this and how it is setup, please watch this video tutorial:

Yeah, the problem is that we are on a very restrictive network.  We are going to need to get the media server package to make things work.  But the problem we are running into is that we are sort of in a catch-22.  Before we invest in the server, we want to make sure that the players run great on all of our mac minis.  But we haven't been able to do that.  So I can't really turn off the nightly reboot until I have the server in place if I need to do it through SignageStudio.

But ultimately, the nightly reboot is probably a good idea for memory anyway so I wish there was a way to make it work.  We installed Windows 7 on one of the mac minis and it's never had a problem but because of network requirements, we need to run Mac OS so I really need to find a solution to these reboot problems.
