User based permissions
« on: January 14, 2020, 05:16:10 PM »
I find the access key based permissions to be limiting - not enough of them for granular permissions.  It would be nice if permissions was based on the user directly so a user can be given access to a campaign or other area versus a user being given an access key and then having to go through and apply that key to what you want them to have access to.  With the current structure you can only have 8 access keys.  We have a scenario where I need more than that to prevent crossover on the management of their businesses screens.

may we ask how many users do you intend to have in one business group? do you plan to mix clients in one business group?

It depends.  We are a University and are configuring departments as businesses in order to allow them to control their own screens.  There have been times where the number of users exceed the configurable number of permissions.  Specific instance is a department with 12 screens and each screen is controlled by a different person.  My solution was to write a small program in PHP that scans a network share for images, builds a slideshow using java and sets a refresh time based on the number of images found.  This has allowed me to tie an instance of the application to a location on our network and use the signage player to display that content via the html5 component.  Now they can drop images or remove images from a folder on the network and it automatically adds / removes them from the presentation.  They have the benefit of the watchdog, remote screen verification and other features provided by signage player with the convenience of a network folder.  Permissions are done vie active directory on the folders.
