Current temperature isn't correct
« on: July 10, 2018, 05:58:09 AM »
We've been using the weather component for a while, and it's usually been correct. Lately, we've noticed that the current temperature is always off (sometimes by a lot).

We used to have the regular Weather component, but now we are using the World Weather component.

Anybody else having this problem?

Yes...There is something weird about the weather component.  Try changing the current icon graphic to see how that impacts the temperature.

This has been reported in the Bugs category.  There is a problem with weather updates reflecting the correct information.  Weather is pretty much useless unless MS fixes the problem.  We're waiting...

Admin - Please provide more information on how it was resolved and what we need to do on our end.  The World Weather is still not working on our end.  Do we need to restart something?  Do we need to update something?  Thank you.

Thank you for addressing the world weather widget issue.  However, I just tested it yesterday and noticed that when you change the weather icon (i believe the color icon was the one where the temperature is affected), it changes the temperature reading.  This was happening before so there is still an issue with this widget.  Please let me know when this is fixed.
Thanks!

We confirm that changing the icons from Black to Color (and White) did change the weather reported.  The temperature is still not accurate for our area (+/- 4 degrees) , but it's closer.

The different color (themes) for weather connects to different caching servers, that is why they are not exactly the same, the weather data is updated every 4 hours. So depending on when your data was cached, it might be off by a few degrees from time to time.

The reasoning behind having different servers is due to the large volume of data requests. If we were to use a single server it will quickly be bogged down to a crawl till it crashes due to the number of requests our weather data servers are handling.  Imagine having more than 60 thousand request every few secs.  So different servers for different themes was the solution. Thats why you get different data from time to time between the 2 servers.
