NEED Google Drive Help
« on: February 27, 2018, 05:51:07 AM »
Greetings everyone,
    I need some expert assistance.
I have a potential client that has a lot of videos that need to be viewed by their employees in their break rooms.
There will be a Digital Signage Player IN the break room with a mouse or other pointing device available.
These videos need to be presented in LIST form, and when selected play that video to completion & return to the list.
>>> The catch to all of this is that I would like to utilize Google Drive for the storage & retrieval of these videos (Or any other Cloud based storage).
They have somewhere in the range of 400-500GB of videos. (I know that's crazy, but this is what their request is)
That is also why I can't host the videos directly WITHIN the Signage Studio Cloud - there is a hard 25GB limit per enterprise account.

I have tried Json scripting with scenes & linking the Google Drive but no luck...I'm at a roadblock & could use some more seasoned assistance.
Hopefully someone else out there has done this with Google Drive and can share how to do it.
Please reply, message or contact me at your convenience.
Thank you in advance!!!  ;)

How about using the new touch interface to load specific scenes, in the scene can embed a URL via the External image/video component.
You can use something like the collection component to move between scenes and anytime you change the remote video (URL can stay the same per video) the content will be replaced with the new updated video.

@Admin: That would require adding something to a scene every time a video was added, which will be daily at times.

I would prefer an automated suggestion for a growing library of videos.
I'm open to other ideas, even possibly using Google Drive API to pull the JSON data, but may need assistance in that as it still needs to CACHE in the Signage Player device.

Star View,

Hope all is well

I tried this with a youtube channel component and it kind of sorta worked.  Had a problem with digitalsignage.com pulling videos that were not part of the specific youtube channel that I had connected to.   We were going to use this at a Ford dealer that just wanted to play the newest FOMOCO videos.  Ford has a great and current YT channel and they actively manage it.

If this works you could host your videos in your own YT channel and they would play in order.  Add or remove from YT as needed.

They said it was going to be fixed in a later release.  Check with them and see if it is good to go

@Eric,
    Thanks for chiming in!
I have the videos playing in an ordered list from Google Drive, but my client want to be able to "SELECT" a specific video from a list & that videos plays.

Were you able to do anything like that with the YouTube component?

No - the end viewer / user can't choose from a list.  If it is in the YT channel it will play.   It is fairly easy to add or delete items from a YT channel.

My issue was that the Official Ford YT channel only had Ford Videos. DigitalSignage.com would pull popular videos from YT in general that had nothing to do with Ford.  Some were vulgar.  Some were stupid.

Never got a good answer as to why it worked that way and we ended up just downloading the YT videos we wanted and putting them in google drive.

Best of luck with your project.
