PDF Files

I just want to say that you guys have a great product & have done an excellent job w/ development!

It would be nice to have PDF files as one of the supported resource file formats. Is this possible? Thanks  ::)

Sure we support PDFs.
Simply use the HTML component to link to URL that has a hosted PDF and it will open in the SignagePlayer no problem.

David.

Thanks for your response David. I tried using this approach.

Perhaps you can help me to resolve my issue. When I pull the PDF in using the HTML component method, I can get rid of everything but the scroll bars on the side & bottom if I view the file in Normal view (within Adobe). I've also tried adjusting to Adobe's "Reading Mode" (still has scroll bars) & "Full Screen Mode" (too small to view & you can see the black outline around the file). Having the scroll bars visible really doesn't look good from a screen presentation standpoint.

When I save the PDF as a JPG through Acrobat to pull it in as a Resource, I lose too much resolution no matter what resolution I specify when I save. The result looks really bad on the screen.

I've spent several hours trying to work around this problem, but haven't come up with a solution. Since Media Signage is built on a flash platform, wouldn't it be possible to add PDF as a supported file format so that I could pull the PDF in as a Resource? If you can think of another solution that I haven't thought of - please let me know, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

We will support PDF more natively in future builds.
BUT, I am still not sure we will be able to remove the scroll bars eaither since I don't think that's available in the PDF API for AS3.
Once we add PDF as a component you will get benefits like auto scrolling from one page to the next every X number of specified seconds, but I am prety sure the scrolls will still be viewable.

My present work around with PDF-Files is:

1. Export a single PDF pages as high resolution TIFF
2. Size the TIFF to required pixel height and with
3. Open the TIFF in Illustrator and export it as a *.swf file to use it as a resource for the studio

This way I get reasonable quality, however it is time consuming. Pictures and graphics are quite good, the quality of text could need some improvement compared to the quality of text the in PDF.
