Allow/ease scheduling SYSTEM reboot
« on: May 09, 2010, 10:01:14 PM »
I have found that very often, my mediaBOXes are losing their Internet connections, although the Internet is still active at the location.  With rare exception, all that is required is a simple reboot of the mediaBOX, but without remote access, it is impossible without traveling to the specific site.

For me, a simple solution would be to schedule a reboot each evening, or some other time period, however creating a CRON job with the Ubuntu image is not very easy, and Scheduled Tasks (service and the "at" command) are not available in the current XPe image.

Could an updated XPe image be provided that includes the Scheduled Tasks service.  Disabled by default is fine, but for those of us needing it, it would be invaluable.  As for Ubuntu, perhaps a small insert in the mediaBOX Manual stepping through the proper way to create such a scheduled reboot.

Thanks!  Just trying to make an incredible product even better!

Thanks. We will improve on the current "Nightly reboot" of the SignagePlayer to allow for complete PC reboot. Will see if we can get this into 2.1

Regards,

Eddie.
