Offline working
« on: November 10, 2014, 06:57:03 PM »
Is it possible for the IOT to work offline. Can i have a local server with studiolite installed (Do i need the internet to be connected to the mediasignage server? Or do i need to buy the Mediaserver to be installed in our server). Will these IOT hubs work offline?? . These solutions are ideal for exhibitions and events where sometimes access to net becomes a problem.

The SignagePlayer LAN server is a standalone gateway that listens to HTTP POST, so you do not need any internet connection to be able to receive and send events.
You can send events from a browser or command line such as curl or wget.

Or you can even host a local web page such as this one: http://www.digitalsignage.com/arduino/webcommands.html
and send whichever events you want.

Of course to build the presentation and configure events you will need a connection to the mediaCLOUD or private mediaSERVER, but this could be done before you go to the exhibition.
The Hub or Arduino ( https://github.com/born2net/mediaArduino ) will just send the events locally within your LAN.

If you look at the video at: http://www.digitalsignage.com/_html/signage_video.html?videoNumber=arduino  or http://www.digitalsignage.com/_html/signage_video.html?videoNumber=vera you will see that all events are sent over the IP address of 192.x.x.x which is a local, non web rotatable address.

So the answer is, you do not need a web connection.

regards.

Thanks will play around with this.. It would be good if people could share the applications they have built on this.

Hi, I also have a question:
Is it possible to change label values through local Lan? Without using mediasignage servers? I know I can set triggers to change scenes an so but not how to set/add/decrease values. It will be in an offline LAN.

Thank you!
