Windows8/10 problems
« on: March 07, 2016, 09:31:39 AM »
Hello guys,

i would like to report a problem related wwhich occurs when using the Windows8/10 players.

1. When installing the version 4.34.11 when trying to upgrade to the latest version 4.34.35 error #3219  occurs. In the studio it is visible that the update process is unsuccessful. There is a workaround when we open the directory of the signage player pressing the right mouse button selecting properties and clicking on "Run this program As Administrator".

2. The power saving mode of the monitor doesn't work properly. It is possible to schedule the monitor to turn off but after that the monitor doesn't turn on.

This problem is not present on players running on Windows7. Actually this bug is present since more than 1 year and now it is quite a problem ti find license on Windows7.

Can you please give me some idea when you will be able to fix that?

Regards

we will be releasing a new version of SignagePlayer this week, version 5.0, please test it and see if it resolves your issue...

So far none of my players are updating to 5.0

I know the issue still persists because we've been experiencing it for some time now. Never until I saw this post did I make the connection that it was Windows 8.1+ Related.

Hi,

I am using Windows 10 and also noticed the power saving mode not working properly for Monitor On.  Note: I have done the following steps to ensure nothing will "block" the monitor from waking up, however, there is still a black screen blocking the player content when the monitor comes back on:
- remove the lock screen
- eliminate the password sign in requirement in the initial log-in screen when we power on the player
- set the "Require sign-in" to Never to eliminate the need to sign in after the player wakes up

If I click a button (any button) on the keyboard, the black screen will disappear and things will go back to normal.  It would be great if this step is not required.

I have tried the SignagePlayer 5.0, it did not resolve this monitor on problem.

It actually brought about another problem where my video content got squished to the left side.  This happened to screens with only 1 screen division.
( I would like to send you the before and after image but not sure how attachments work in here ....)

Thanks in advance for any suggestion you can provide.

I believe I remember someone mentioning somewhere that this problem is related to Signage not having the permissions to wake the computer. Although defaulting the app to administrative mode via compatibility options never fixed it for me... Safe to say Media Signage doesn't seem very worried about getting this fixed since the problem has persisted for many years now with no resolve.

I've experienced this problem on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Not once have I had a successful power saving plan where the machine and TV come back online automatically without completely shutting down the computer and using BIOS RTC Alarm to reboot it in the morning.

I've used a program called SmartPower from smartpower.co.uk but its hit or miss whether or not this will work correctly. I've had different results on different hardware using the same software.

I also want to join in the request for correcting this problem with power saving not working correctly. It stops me using Windows 8.1 and 10 and I have to stick to the old Windows 7, which becomes very difficult to install on new NUCs because of the missing integrated drivers for USB 3.0 and NVMe SSD disks. Please Digital Signage, resolve this problem  :-\ .

My hardware and software:
MB Asus B85M-G
CPU Intel G1820
RAM DDR3 2x4GB Kingston
VGA Intel Graphics in the CPU
VGA Driver - from windows update
Windows 10 Pro x64 fully updated
HDD Seagate ST380815AS SATA 80GB
Signage Player v 5.0.99

In windows 10, always make sure you run box under the user Administrator as this could lead to some issues...

and auto login as administrator upon bootup
