Trip Advisor Widget in SignageStudio and Player
« on: June 16, 2011, 05:32:51 AM »
Good Morning,

I am trying to create a scene that contains a TripAdvisor Widget.  I created a dedicated html file for the widget and added an html component to my scene.

Unfortunately the rendering in the html component in MediaSignage differs from the same page loaded in the browser.  Attached are screen shots of the rendering in Chrome and Signage Studio.

Below is the complete code of the html file and widget.

Is there anything I can do, to get Signage Studio to render this properly?
Thanks,
Bruce.

Chrome:

MediaSignage:

Widget Code from Trip Advisor
<html>
   <head>
   </head>
   <body>

<div id="TA_selfserveprop437" class="TA_selfserveprop">
<ul id="7iQhmKo" class="TA_links 5P7qV5ddZBEp">
            <li id="shUEAsIzMHa" class="6B2slA">Offering 27 reviews of <a target="_blank" href=" newbielink:http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g155004-d182017-Reviews-BEST_WESTERN_PLUS_Macies_Hotel-Ottawa_Ontario.html [nonactive]">BEST WESTERN PLUS Macies Hotel</a> in Ottawa</li>
      </ul>
  </div>
<script src=" newbielink:http://www.jscache.com/wejs?wtype=selfserveprop&amp;uniq=437&amp;locationId=182017&amp;lang=en_US&amp;rating=true&amp;nreviews=0&amp;writereviewlink=false&amp;popIdx=false&amp;iswide=true&amp;linkt=2 [nonactive]"></script>

</body>
</html>

You tried the SignageStudio Desktop version?

That's correct, I used Signage Studio Desktop version.  Since posting, I dug through the code of the widget which is here:

newbielink:http://www.tripadvisor.com/WidgetEmbed-selfserveprop?amp;writereviewlink=false&amp;popIdx=false&amp;linkt=2&amp;iswide=true&amp;rating=true&amp;uniq=437&amp;lang=en_US&amp;nreviews=0&amp;locationId=182017 [nonactive]

In my html document I added an explicit link to the CSS that is referenced in the widget code above.  The widget displayed properly.

Unfortunately, this work around won't be suitable for production.  If TripAdvisor updates the structure of the HTML or the CSS, my scene may break.

To me, it appears that the HTML component is not loading or applying the CSS properly.

Thanks again.
Bruce.

I had the same problem.  My fix was to use "Firefox" as an external application within the campaign to call up the TripAdvisor HTML page that I made with the widgets.  Works well that way.
However I too would like the "built in" Signage Player browser to be able to display more complex coding than it does.  It seems somewhat limited.

@StarVue:  Thanks for the information, I will look into that in the short term.

I do hope, however, that Media Signage will be updated to support this.  In a previous post, I was told it has a WebKit browser so I would hope that it can handle anything that Chrome can handle....

I'm just wondering if there is any followup from Media Signage for this issue.... Will you be looking at why the HTML component doesn't handle the widget from Trip Advisor.

Thanks,
