Seamless updating of an image slideshow
« on: February 13, 2013, 08:27:14 AM »
So I am setting up 6 signs for a grand opening of a local hotel. The idea is that it will have a live twitter feed which is no problem. By the way visibletweets.com works great for this!! The problem I need to solve is when people send pictures to me via twitter I need to be able to update them live without the players restarting. I was looking to options that embed a slideshow via flikr or picasa but those will not loop.

Would anybody have any idea on the best way to go about this.

What is your ideal setup and what do you have at your disposal should you have to go another route? Are you trying to show the twitter feed or the slideshow or both?

Thanks for the fast reply!!

The twitter feed is not the issue.

Basically I need to be able to add pictures to a slideshow screen division without having to restart the screen. It would loop through the pictures and when I add one eventually throw it into the loop when it came around to that picture.

My first thought was embedding slideshows from picasa or flickr but they do not loop. I also had the idea of webcasting the slideshow and putting a webcast division in. I think this would work for a couple signs but most likely fail due to the bandwidth needs in order to pull it off across 6 signs.

If you have studio on hand, why not upload and use the collection and choose slideshow for that screen division.
Nevermind on that as the restarting issue would be there.

I would normally use a SWF that pulls from a folder using XML but not sure if this is something you know how to do.

I have never given it a try but I will look into doing that. I might have found a third party flikr embedding option that can loop as well. I think between that and setting the timeline to 2 minutes or so it should accomplish my goal. This would embedd a looping slideshow that updates every 2 minutes.

I really appreciate the help!

No problem. Let me know if you need anything else. I can build one for you that would pull the images from almost anywhere.

Great idea! I don't use photo sites with the exception of photo stream from apple. I see now that flicker and the others have media RSS as well.

I'm trying to do something similar.  Could you let me know the exact steps on how you were able to get this to work from smugmug to the media rss.

Thanks!!

Hi Mock,

I'm interested in how you made the visible tweets format properly.  Will you please explain how you got it display?

Thanks!

I have never really done anything special, that is what I love about visibletweets.  I have always used it on vertical monitors though at 1920x1080 so maybe that is saving me.  I also like it because I can use advanced search criteria like from:@user. This would give me only tweets and re-tweets from that user. Almost kind of a poor mans moderated twitter feed because it will not include others tweets mentioning the user.

What kind of device and resolution are you trying to use visabletweets on?

Hey Mock

Is there a reason you ended up going with smugmug media rss over flickr? Please explain. And what is your workflow for pulling through smugmug.

Thanks
