Using public network drive shares for timeline feed
« on: February 06, 2015, 12:07:19 PM »
The set up -

We are a school with multiple displays.  Some of those displays have content (pictures) controlled by faculty/staff (non digital signage admin) that only have rights to a local shared network drive to dump images.

We want to setup something (component? scene? feed of some kind?) in the digital signage timeline to allow these faculty/staff members to be able to just dump image files to the network drive.  Then after a certain amount of time, set up a refresh to happen (say after 24 hours) within a time line that pulls the new items off of the network, replacing what was there without the faculty/staff member ever having to touch the digital signage interface.

Can this be done?  We ran across a mention in one of the video tutorials of setting up an Apache server for something like this?  Is that the only way?  will it do what we are asking?

Can this be done somehow on windows domain server share? What is the component we use for the time line that can auto update/refresh from a shared network path?

Thanks in advance for your help!

you can use the external image component and point it to your local web server, http://YOUR_IP/YOUR_FILE.png

I like the idea of just accessing a server where the images/videos can be uploaded by the customer but can the external component be set to a folder?  If a new image/videos(s) are being uploaded to a server, how will the signage studio external component know the correct web address?  Does it have to be changed everytime?
Thanks
