Funeral Home with 12 rooms/displays
« on: December 30, 2014, 01:02:49 PM »
Hi,

I am looking into solutions for the following AV scenario:

Funeral home with 12 displays, the owner would like to load family videos on a central PC and stream them to one of the 12 displays.
I've considered both high end AV systems as well as low end solutions such as a Plex server streaming to 12 rokus (or apple tvs, or whatever...).
The problem with the low end solution is the players (roku,apple,...) always have a screensaver or menu appearing on the display before the video is sent, and this does not look professional.

So I stumbled upon digitial signage, which seems to be reasonably inexpensive but I'm not sure it can do what I need:
- upload new videos and send to specific dispaly/player (without too much effort)
- accept as many video formats as possible (avi,mp4,mkv,wmv....)
- displays remains black, or off, until the video is sent
- stream over ethernet, not HDMI (although HDMI from the 12 players to the 12 displays is fine)

At first glance a digitial signage server (cloud or private) with 12 players fits the bill....I would create a new campaign (?) for each video.

I would be thankful for any advice the forum members could provide...Am I off base? Missing something important?

Thanks!
Chris

Hey Chris,
Welcome aboard. Yes we can do everything you asked. You could create a campaign/timeline that loops on every screen in the building. Then you would have several options on how to update the individual screens based on your needs. You could simply create a new campaign of the video you'd like then send it to the specific player. Each player would be it's own Station so each can have different campaigns playing or can all use the same one. If you'd like to see this in action please contact us and we can show you how we do ours.
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply, glad to see I'm on the right track.

Now I will research the best licence cost/performance model for the hardware implementation.

Cloud vs private server....12 individual players vs 4 players with 3 outputs etc....

Do you have any hardware currently in place?

No nothing in place yet, it will be a new system. I'm looking into the options for players, either the mediadroid sold here, or something else like the Shuttle DSA2LS.

If you don't have any hardware in place already then this is the solution for you. Get one of the mediaDROID AD-90 or AD-150 and set them up on all your tvs. Then setup a PC in the office to manage them from. Easily the most cost effective solution available, unless you can get android players at a better price locally and then do the work of setting up their software (that's what we do). The Shuttle is a nice system too.
