USB, Administrator Issues
« on: October 21, 2013, 09:03:32 AM »
Hello, i have clients i am offering solutions. Currently one of my clients operates a large data intensive infrastructure which makes security highly critical for their environment. They have had several threats in the past which makes them overly careful, and they wont accept any guarantee from my company of the USB Key being threat-free.

In my suggestion, USB mechanism of license is rather old and not flexible considering different clients with different environment and security policy implementations tailored to their infrastructure. I have used other Signage provider in the past and they were able to enforce licensing without use of USB device which creates limitations.

They have raised some questions, which my affect my business with them critically.

1. First why must i install with an Administrator account. Why not an account with any name but has Admin rights. Can you give granular details of what the Administrator account does, that another account with admin rights cannot do.

2. Secondly is there a way i can download licenses purchase from you to the server here over internet without using the USB dongle mechanism.

The client also implement virtual servers rather than physical which make plugging of USB a problem, the last time we did, the Virtual Server cluster box was making a loud disturbing noise

i don't know why anyone would design software like this--it's a terrible idea and wont work for any company that has reasonable IT policy.  This is too bad, cause i had a whole lot of money to give digitalsignage.com  8)

It doesn't have to be an Admin account, but, you do need to allows several privileges including access to IIS web service. And so a full admin is not required.

admin,

could you please elaborate?  Your video tutorials and live support people maintain that the original Administrator account is the only account (no exceptions) that give a proper, successful installation.

Hi there

I wonder if this is possible... With the Canon app we can view the camera's output as we all know.

Is it possible to use the USB as video out?
