In release 1.6, you need to uninstall the old Watchdog...
« on: August 21, 2009, 05:12:03 AM »
In release 1.7 we converted the old Adobe AIR Watchdog to the new C++ SignageController.

The old Watchdog can be uninstalled by going to Programs > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and select to Uninstall the SignageWatchDog.

The new C++ SignageController is automatically installed with release 1.6 in your Windows PC under Programs > Startup folder > SignageController.bat

The Player installed with the AIRPlayer needs to be rebooted (which in turn auto start the SignageController.bat on the next load) or simply run the SignageController.bat from the Startup folder.

Once the SignageController.bat is running, it will automatically start the AIRPlayer for you and you will see a message on the AIRPlayer that shows that the SignageController.bat is now connected.

Release 1.7 is the ONLY release you will ever need to do an Uninstall and re-install of AIRStudoo and AIRPlayers ( due to the changed SSL certificate).

Let us know if you have any questions,

Yes, that SignageController.exe is not supported only on Windows.
Our system will run on Mac and Linux (although Linux is buggy), but some of the functionality will not be available until we recompile the Controller for Mac and Linux as well (which will happen in the next 2-3 months).

The Question I ask people is this, why would anyone run the AIRPlayer on a Mac ( Studio I can see), The Mac ( even Mac Minis) are so much more expansive .... and you can get a better PC (Mini PC) for about 1/2 the price... just my 2 cent.

Never the less, we will support the Controller on Mac and Linux soon.

David.

Well, from that POV and knowing that the system runs on a web platform, you are absolutely right!

But, it will always depend on how reliable you want your system to be!

I´ve been working with Qt smil files for Signage, but now that I´ve found you not going to change all my mac minis for pcs but as I´m going to buy from you maybe today, it´ll be very helpful if you walk me through a direct link where I can download the prior version for the player and the studio because a couple of weeks before I tried them and worked seamlessly for me.

Thank you.

I am not sure you are aware of the following so let me explain...

Our latest release works on Mac no problem. You do NOT NEED the new SignageController.exe as the basic functionality that worked in 1.5 will still work in the latest release of 1.7.

What you will not get on a Mac right now, are some of the EXTRA features that were added such as Remote Screen Capture, Music Player, PC reboot etc. These enhanced features NEED the SignageController. However, for basic signage to work (same as in 1.5), you can still use it on a Mac including doing a remote Save and restart of the AIRPlayer.

So, no we did not stop supporting Macs and you are free and can still use Macs no problem.
Once we compile the C++ SignageController.exe onto the Mac and Linux platforms, you will begin to enjoy the enhanced features.

Yes, I´m aware of that, but watchdog´s features such as restart player in case it closes down is critical for me.

Do I get at least this feature?

You do not get the "WatchDog" but you do get the "AIRPlayer restart".
The reason we dropped the old AIR WatchDog and converted into a C++ is since we were not happy with old WatchDog reliability.
It was 95% reliable and we needed 100% reliability.

Ok, but it has to be restarted from the studio, not by itself in case the player fails right?
