Having problems installing AirPlayer in Linux
« on: May 11, 2009, 05:25:03 AM »
Hi.  I have been having problems getting AirPlayer to work in Linux.  I have tried the installation on Ubuntu 7.10, 8.10 and 9.04.  I have all the required components installed.  I made sure to install the latest Adobe Air and Flash 10.  The AirPlayer appears to install ok.  When it launches, I only get a blank AirPlayer window.  I am never prompted to enter my email and configure the AirPlayer etc.

Please help.

Thanks

Yes, we are aware of this issue. It is an Adobe AIR bug and we are working with Adobe on a fix.
Adobe is slow so we have to wait... Hope they get it fixed soon...

The good news is that our next release due in or around 6-18-09 will include run on Linux (tested on Ubuntu 8.X and 9.X).
The bad news is that Adobe still has a long way to go with their AIR runtime as it is still buggy and so the Linux Player is buggy.
We have resolved all our issues and now waiting on Adobe to finish up (exit beta into solid stable release).

So, in about two weeks you will able to test for yourself.
Always glad to help,

Also, you mentioned that you have tested your app with Ubuntu 9.1

Can you please let us know what works on Linux and what does not?

It can help us get started

The basic stuff works but some issues with screen division levels and a few more things..
You will be able to test it our in about a week or so...
I don't think its ready for prime time yet, until Adobe fixes all the issues that is in the Adobe AIR.

How stable is AirPlayer in Linux now?  What versions of Linux has it been tested successfully on?

Thanks

Right now the problem is the loading of images and swf on Linux ( tested on Ubuntu 8)
So windows is the OS of choice, we hope to try and find a workaround for this in the next month.
