watchdog putting focus on taskbar in windows xp airplayers
« on: August 11, 2009, 04:51:41 PM »
Had this problem for a few weeks with watchdog somehow preventing the taskbar from dropping into the background.  When I look at my player, I'm seeing a taskbar with about 3 mediasignage tabs, watchdog, and start button, system tray and clock.

If I click on the background of the media signage, it will go away for awhile, sometimes as long as a day it seems.  Always when I come in the next day this taskbar is on top again.

I just killed watchdog on the one player, and waiting to see if that helps.

Any suggestions or is this a known issue?

I just noticed that stopping watchdog causes it to restart in a few minutes.  Good boy, good watchdog.  When it restarted I notice my taskbar showing again.

1. You can download the free utility:

http://www.mediasignage.com/files/TaskBarHider.zip

which will make your taskbar disappear when inactive (not like the windows hide).

You can find more XP optimizations here:

2. In our next release 1.6 this was resolved with the new c++ watchdog.
We hope to have 1.6 out around mid Sep.

David.

I would like to make this as complicated as possible I guess.  I didn't even THINK to hide the taskbar with autohide.  I'll try the utilities if I have to.

Sometimes, other windows (such as antivirus, windows update restart, etc) will also come to the foreground.

Thanks for the fix.

Between the new Signage controller in 1.6 and the utility you should be in good shape.
