3rd Players ?
« on: June 08, 2013, 08:10:00 PM »
I know this has been addressed in various formats, and I am just interested in what people are using as Signage players with the MediaCloud/MediaServer.
(I am enterprise customer)

In looking at the MediaDroid-100, I have concerns as the firmware shows an unbranded boot-up screen, and might be under performance ? (what do people actually have running on these with success)

Are we able to use any Android or Windows based system as a player ??  (as I have seen some devices that are higher specs and much cheaper then the Media-XXX devices). - its not always about price, I am just interested in the real PRO's and CON's and benefits of using the Media-XXX products

That all really depends on what type of content you are building for your players. Unfortunately every campaign can be different and require different specs. Typically I like going the route of building my own. The MediaBox versions are built with the Windows embedded version which is a lighter weight version of the full OS so it will typically load up faster as it is not bloated with all of the junk you do not need. As for using Windos, yes, you can and I do recommend using it over Android or Mac right now. This is what most Players are built with from all of the other Signage companies and tends to be the most reliable. (You usually do not hear the words reliable and Windows in the same sentence)

As for Android, folks on here have seen some success with it as well, but again it is content dependent.
