Media Server Software
« on: February 01, 2011, 02:12:35 PM »
I am considering becoming a reseller and I am researching the "server" approach.  Microsoft Server 2008 R2 software seems to come in many versions.  In the Microsoft store the list over 30 of them -  ranging in price from under $ 100 up to $ 30,0000.    Could you help suggest what version I need?  And what about those licenceses, how many do I need?  Do I need one for every new account?  Hope not.  I have an IT person who can easily handle the software install and setup, but I'm trying to do some research for him.  thanks.

All you need is a Windows 2008 Server, any version will do, even Storage server (about $150.00)

The mediaSERVER is $895.00 (onetime fee) for the software installation kit which can be installed on any Windows 2008 server powered PC (you provide the hardware, any PC / server you like).

Each SignagePlayer Desktop License is $195 (also a onetime fee).
The SignagePlayer web version is free of course. Each PC running the SignagePlayer Desktop version can power 1 or more screens.

And there is a $39.00 per license / per year charge for the all the latest software updates and support (by the way the $195.00 already includes a 1 year of updates and support that's included in it).

Thanks,   I understood about YOUR licenses for accounts I'd sign up, I was asking about the licensing that Microsoft refers to with THEIR  software (Microsoft Server 2008).  My IT person has now explained to me that I have no worry on that issue. But I was wondering about exactly which version of Microsoft Server 2008 to purchase?  My  IT person told me to use "Windows Web Server 2008 R2"  as shown in the link below,  row 6, for  list price of $ 469.  I  like the price you quoted at $ 150  if you could tell me the exact version terminology so I can find it.  "The Microsoft Store" on Microsoft's website list ove 30 versions, none of which my IT person suggested.  This is confusing.

Also we have the 32 bit  VS   64 bit issue.  All the new versions are 64 bit.  Can I still use it?

It's called Microsoft Storage Server. One note, right now the mediaSERVER requires 32bit of 2008 server.
However, starting next month we will begin releasing the new 3.0 of the mediaSERVER as well and convert to the 64bit. So it's best that you wait another month and in preparation, order the 64 bit which will soon be supported and will include the Ad Engine as well...

Sean.

All of our drivers for the mediaKEY use 64 bit drivers.
