Signage Player - Presentation freeze
« on: February 13, 2013, 04:42:07 AM »
Hi we have sometimes the problem, that signage player don't play the videos. There are two reasons. The first one is that immediately after starting the presentation the signage player shows only a black screen. The second one is, that der presentation is running one loop and than it freeze at the last picture. To solve the problem we can restart the player or clear the cache. The problem is, that this failure is comming once again.

We use Windows 7 64Bit with latest updates. The problem happens on the signage player versions (4.0.90 / 4.0.100 / 4.10.20). We never had this problem with 3.2. We also cleared the caches manually on the machines by deleting the cache directory an register the machine new to the network.

Cause of this problem we have to check our stations every day manually.

Thanks for reply!

Best regards!

Michael

Hi, it could be that the video format is corrupt or not codded properly

use freemake video converter to re-encode the video  http://www.freemake.com/

are you using FLV-H264 video format?

I am having the same problem with 4.0.72. Currently I am unable to update to 4.10.20 untile MediaSignage come out with an updated version that allows it to be installed on a Mac, so I cannot confirm for the latest version. I can tell you that the same content is on two other Macs (Just video) and I have never had a problem with them. There is something wrong somewhere in 4.0 as these are just videos. So this leads me to believe that it has something to do with the Cache somehow. Not sure what.

We are using adobe media encoder and the flv h264 format. We use some movies since 2 years. 10 of our stations are running linux and the player version 3.2. On this stations we don't have any problems. All new stations with windows 7 sp1 64bit and the signage player 4 (4.0.90 / 4.0.100 / 4.10.20) we have this problems.

Our pc's should be strong enough for playing only a few movies. (core i5 3th generation with 3ghz and 2gb ddr3-1600 ram)

I also think there is a problem with the caching. It's not a daily problem. It comes 2 times a month.

Best regards!

I have a similar problem here.

my players are on WindowsXP embedded and Windows7 embedded running SignagePlayer v4.10.20.  All my videos are either FLV or MP4 and are made with Freemake according to the video tutorials here.

My campaigns start and then after a random amount of time, usually within an hour, the player will display a black screen.  Updating the player from the station model 'play' button only causes the spash SWF (configured in ENTERPRISE console) to freeze.  restarting the signage player or rebooting the player is the only fix.  The issue persists shortly after this though.  I have to manually watch some players to make sure they don't have this issue.

UPDATE:  determined it was a bad video causing the issue.  I re-encoded it to FLV with H.264 encoding and it works properly now.
