SWF files cannot access local content
« on: March 28, 2013, 06:54:40 AM »
Hello

I have an issue since several months.
I have already had a discussion with your Live Chat on this subject last Decembre, but I am still stuck, and it is becoming urgent !

Our swf files have to access local content on the Player, and even if I check the box "trust content", it does not help.

But, if I believe your Warning message when checking the box ("By checking this option, you allow the selected swf to access external domains and to access the local machine"), it SHOULD work, no ?

Please, I need your help on that as soon as you can.

Thanks
Best Regards

Are your SWFs built with 4.6 SDK? 3.0 will not work and will only crash the system if you try and trust the SWF. Rebuild with 4.6 if it is not and it should work.

My SWFs are built with Adobe Flash CS5, and they don't crash the system : they just, as I say, don't access local content on the player.

Local file access is not allowed by the Adobe Box security,  you will need to upload your external data to the internet and point your swf to it.

You might be able to correct the issue by going to the following link with your player computer and select always trust. If this box is only for DS, then you should be ok opening up the security window. or you could place all of your content in certian folder and adding it as a trusted location.

Give it a shot and report back. All of my stuff is hosted elsewhere so I have not tried this. It works for me though when building and testing my SWFs locally.

Here are step by step instructions of you rather do it manually.

well it seems that much more people have problem with the combination of signageplayer + swf with external content - if I search for such threads with swf and external content I'll find many...

it would be great if the developers (or mediasignage) can provide a working swf which loads external content dynamic and a step by step guide which is important (sdk 4.6, publishing options, and so on)....!  8)

Hello Criley,

I have already gone through the security settings of Macromedia Flash Player, on my Player.
I have allowed access to the directory where the swf if located.
But now that I think of it, maybe I should allow access to ALL the directories where my SWF might access...I am not sure I did that...

I'll give it a try on Monday, and I will tell you if it works.

Thanks

Hello Criley,

I have tried everything I could to allow everything needed in the Macromedia security settings : it doesn't help...

But let me just ask you to test this and tell me if you think it is normal :

If you clik on the following URL, you will see an swf animation running in your browser :

http://absmanager.absolutmedia.fr/meteo.swf

If you use the Component External swf/image, it doesn't work...

Thanks for your help

Hello

I tried the URL with the HTML Component - it works fine - maybe you can work with that solution ;)

Yes...that's what I eventually did...

But is it really satisfactory ? I don't think so  :-[

MS has developped a component which is called External swf/Image : I find it a pitty that when I try to use it it doesn't work, and I don't know why...!

Cheers !
