Content Management WishList
« on: December 22, 2012, 09:02:04 AM »
Hey Developers, I put together a wish list focusing around content management as I do find it time consuming to do so when dealing with large networks especially when each location has their own account.

Enterprise Management

1.   IMPORTANT Shared scenes and resources between accounts. It is a pain to upload the same files and redo the same scenes between accounts (not to mention how much duplicate content is taking up space on your servers)
2.   Channels having a list view to add delete rearrange (although the current view is good for seeing how much time or space is left it is a bit complicated to add resources and snap them into place)

Advertising Player Component IMPORTANT

1.   Scrap the component and make a checkbox on a channel to assign it to receive ads. Repeat to fit should repeat all content including the incoming ads.
2.   Have a ghost resource appear on the timeline to indicate the space reserved for an ad assigned via the advertising campaign
3.   Allow scenes created in the studio to be used for content in ad packages

Proof of Play functionality on the timeline

1.   When a resource is expired make it 50 percent opacity or a different colour on the timeline
2.   Make a button on the timeline to clean expired resources
3.   NOTE - when a resource has not begun yet due to start time it should visually appear like it is playing as to reserve the space so the space does not get accidently sold

Self-Service

We are a company that provides content management, ad creative, network creation and support. That being said, to save our customers money, we allow self-service messages on a side bar or bottom bar channel while we reserve the main video area to our managers to make sure ads play correctly as per insertion orders.

1.   The ability to block or hide specific channels from those with less privileges
2.   This way they can create their own content using 3rd party or in the scene tool to upload it to their designated channel
3.   Right now we have it so they can modify messages using the catalogue or RSS. if they want a file inserted we have to upload it for them and charge them to do so

Thanks guys and we look forward to another solid year with MediaSignage!

Andrew

also if we could place a timeline from one business to another business and share a campaign... ads will truly be "cross cloud"advertised.... ;D

I believe this can be done in a way with an Enterprise account. You have the folks at MS create a template of a Campaign you create and now you have a baseline to start off with. I agree it would be really nice if we had our own shared resources (resources/scenes) within our own account to use within all of our business accounts. That would be nice.

I second (fifth) all of these suggestions. A lot of our clients end up having the same layout design and share many of the same resources and scenes. Even being able to just duplicate an account/business would be a very useful, time-saving feature.

@criley - Can you explain a bit more about the MS guys creating a template of a campaign. How come the admins have never said anything like that?

Look at this blog. If you do a simple search you can find all sorts of stuff.  ;)
