Detecting if Monitor is On/Off
« on: July 18, 2012, 12:39:10 PM »
I wonder if part of the new features of version 4, is expected some function that checks whether the player is connected to the monitor on or off.

It would be perfect. So it could actually prove that the campaign is being displayed.
It could stand as the indicators of controller and player - green or red - in stations.
I know this is possible because when the monitor is connected, the PC receives a return signal from the monitor.
I read something like this link:

http://www.promixis.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-1282.html

Well, it's an idea. Is it possible?

Will only work on VGA/DVI I think.

We measure the energy consumption at the mains plug (connected by Ethernet). Easy to see if the 150W TV is on or not!

you can also buy display with rs232 control port (LG for example) and connect it to player via usb.
It allows you to:
 - check if monitor is on/off
 - turn it on/off
 - change display parameters
 - and many more

But you will need external app to use it as media signage doesn't support this right now, as far as I know

olgierd, can you provide more info on the device you bought (RS232) so we can try and add support for it?

Regards.

sure, we are using LG M4210LCBA display, but I think all LG commercial displays with rs232 support control function.
Download pdf with manual newbielink:http://www.lgsolutions.com/__downloads/pdf/m4210leng.pdf [nonactive] and in appendix A (from page 39) you will find instructions how to control the display.

it's working, but you still need to install external software.
what I'm thinking about is to control the display via signagestudio as you can control stations.

I agree that this would be a fantastic feature.  Sometimes as videos cache on our slower network, the screen comes up black... it'd be good to be able to turn the TV off during this time, if necessary, so they aren't seeing a black screen and thinking something is wrong.
