Android Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
« on: June 03, 2012, 03:47:49 AM »
I need some help to get this to work on android. An android pad can be a good solution in many cases.

1. Why does some SWF work and others dont? I cannot see any pattern. Can you point me to some guidelines?
2. Why are RSS newsfeeds a little off? They are playing to things at once. Can it be that i have not set the correct size for the screen?
3. How can i ensure that nobody can tamper with the device? I only want it to show commercials, and dont want anybody pressing home button or messing with settings.
4 Do you have a program like signagecontroller for android, or are planning on it?
5. Is it best to wait for Windows 8 before trying to get a mobile solution to be stabile?
6. I am trying to put displays in taxicabs. How do i get it to power on/off as the power gets cut? I cant have the display on when cars are parked or not in use.

If any other sites have solutions to some of the problems above that will also work. I need solutions ASAP.

Any sort of feedback from anyone would be great. I understand that some of this may be outside of mediasignage.com`s normal solutions, but why build an Android version if it cannot be left unattended?

Maybe you guys are busy with the 4.0 version and we should just wait for that, but please let me know something more.

I know you guys are cutting edge, and i think you are doing a great job. But if mediasignage on android is just a novelty, then please let us know that also.
We are running a business, and have investments and employees, that depends on solutions. If we have to wait on windows 8 to get the solution we need, so be it. But it would be nice to know.

Android will be our leading platform once more hardware solutions are available.
We are looking into several dual core players. And we are optmizing the player all the time for Android. We expect around end of 2012 is when Android will become the defacto player next to Windows.

1. SWF must be AS3, Actionscript 2 will not work (you can also try the new 3rd party compatibility mode available in 4.0 for SWFs)
2. Bug that will be addressed in a few months in Android and iOS when we move RSS to Stage3D and support GPU acceleration.
3. You need to get a hardware mount that hides all buttons and the lower portion of the screen (no recommendation I can give)
4. No need for SignageController in Android.
5. See 1st comment.
6. This is something you will need to address with the device / vendor you use (it's one of the reasons we are still not pushing Android for deployment).

FYI, use this to auto start the player on boot: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autostart&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hdXRvc3RhcnQiXQ..

Regards,

Sean.
