Android App Crash on Loss of Network with Live Content
« on: May 15, 2012, 08:58:05 PM »
There is a problem with the Android App if it tries to access live content (web pages or tickers) and the network is not present.

The app just crashes if it tries to access this content with no network.

App should not crash, it should continue to display the cached content if the network connection is lost.

This defect is preventing us from going live with our solution.

Also, it would be good if the App could auto restart if it ever crashes.

Hello,
I have tried to reproduce on a Samsung 7 tablet (didn't use HTML component since it does not supports offline playback, but did add RSS) and when no internet all plays just fine. Can you try with no HTML component and also try on a different device (tablet) and see if it behaves normally?

Regards.

We are using Android set top boxes, tried 4 different models, problem is the same on all.

Running the test now, seems OK with the HTML component removed.

How often does the RSS feed call out to the network?

We will want to use an HTML component though, so will need it to be resilient to loss of network.

Are you able to auto restart the app in the event of a crash?

Tried it on a Samsung 10.1, same thing happens, it is the HTML that crashes the App when network is lost.

Tried it on the PC version and it doesn't crash the App, the HTML element just goes blank.
