RSS Feed generator rec?
« on: February 09, 2012, 08:43:38 PM »
We want to utilize RSS feeds to enable users who will not have access to media signage the ability to update data in a screen. For example the receptionist putting a name on a welcome screen. We are thinking about using the custom rss. We need to generate atom rss feed. Any rec for a tool we can use for this purpose?

Find a web hosting provider that can host a Joomla website. Joomla is very easy to set up to allow for a customer to add their own content. Joomla has a plugin that will output RSS feeds. You could then subscribe your signage component to the Joomla rss feed.

Bumknee, did you find a solution to this? This is exactly the same issue we're having.

We had the same issue, and also explored the possibility of using a user-generated RSS-feed. However, we found a simpler and more satisfactory solution.

Use the external html object in MediaSignage, along with a simple script that scrolls text vertically. A good one can be found in the link in the bottom of this post. Simply point the ext. html to the document on a server, and allow user access through ftp. We made it with notepad++ and the NppFTP plugin.
