Bandwidth Usage
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:35:02 PM »
I would be renting a space in a venue to setup a monitor and asking to use
their internet service. What I am worried about is how much bandwidth could
a my setup be using. Would it be a considerable amount so as to have to
compensate the owner of the venue ?

Thank you

No way too tell how much bandwidth you will be using, it will depend on what you have in the campaign, if you only have images in the campaign than it will use up minimal bandwidth,  but if you have streaming MRSS and other videos, then it will use up quite a lot, till the system is able to cache the play the whole thing from cache.

Hi Felipe,

I've run bandwidth tests to determine useage for a constant connection of both logmein.com and the signage software. I've measured it at about 10MB per day.

Additionally there are items like, news feeds, updating video files (5MB-15MB per video file) etc.

Currently our live stations utilize between 400MB to 450MB per month (PER SIGNAGE PC) typically. Some locations have a several PC's running the software so just multiply the usage per station.

For our internet USB rogers/bell sticks we have our plan set to 'auto-upgrade' if that month happens to go above the 500MB plans that are on it - which may happen if there are a lot of video files to add/change. It would then rollback to the original plan the following month.

You can view more about our video sign network in Southern Ontario at videosigninc.com

Thanks,

Andrew
