Labels Auto update
« on: May 02, 2009, 11:27:34 PM »
Hi

This software is really promising. Only needs the scheduler to be perfect. When do you plan on implementing the scheduler?

Now to another matter, I have several restaurants, which I plan to set up digital menu boards.
I plan on having an image or something as an background, but I need to get the prices from an XML file which would be updated once a day or something alike.

Any solutions?

Hello,
You haven't seen anything yet... We have major features to release including scheduler, 3D engine, Advertising engine, transitions and much more.

As for the menu board, you have two options:

#1 Use  our HTML component to embed a HTML URL web site which can point to a site you host and a page which is powered by CGI and can show dynamic content ( XML etc ). You have to develop that page. That page can also host dynamic SWF that is powered by XML

#2 Use Dynamic SWF (again you need to develop it in Flash CS3) which is powered by XML. Load that swf as a resource to our system. Once its loaded, mark it as "Allow External Data Access" which in turn will allow that SWF that you developed to communicate with the eternal world thus getting its data from an external DB / XML source.

Remember that both options #1 and #2 will ONLY WORK in out AIRPlayer... ( which is probably what you want anyways ).

Check out the tutorial section and view the Resources > External Resources Video.

Thanks for the reply.
What will happen if the internet connection goes down though?
Will the labels go blank?

Yes, this is a downside to this...
There is a workaround that will work...

Install a Freeware Web Server (such as an Apache or IIS) on the same PC running the Signage and hots it all locally.

You should be able to use your developed swf to read the xml file from the local directory (from the locally hosted  server).
This solution is bullet proof and will work at all times...

In the future we will have a "Catalog" feature that will make this feature very easy to implement within the Studio.

Sean.

all restaurants are connected in a LAN network, so If I were to put the XML file and Web Server on our server it should be easy to use an HTML file as well?

My Flash developer is not quite understanding what you mean by Dynamic SWF connected to XML
