The Intel Atom 1.6ghz works ok !!!

I just hate to see someone spending $360.00 for a 1.6G when they can get spend $279.00 for a 2.8G P4 Dual core.
The case may be bigger on the 2.8 BUT you can use a VGA extender for $35.00 and put the case 100ft away.

Always glad to help,

Hi to the Mediasignage team and to all users

I would propose this interesting italian product.
It cost 99€ and it based on Intel Atom 1.6ghz, also you can customize it.

What do you thing about? Could it work with mediasignage with efficiency, or could have problems?

Base on my research. Even the new Atom 330 which have dual core, may not be ideal because flash is no friend to the Atom chips.  The main source of this info comes from the crowd trying to build a small home media unit and struggling to watch Hulu on it.

My guess is it would likely work great if your not doing lots of video, but I would LOVE to hear from someone with real work experience.

We did test the eebox from Asus and it works well but only for VERY simple DS presentations with low quality video and images.
Flash does love CPU power, so our hw recomendation is still on.

Adobe and NVIDIA Work to Accelerate Flash on ION

This could be a very interesting development for using the low cost lower power Atoms

It all looks very good. After speccing out the items on newegg, I had 2 basic questions:

a. Noting that the video chipset on that motherboard is the Intel GMA 3100 (your average gpu), and after reading your article, can it be accurately stated that the flash video animations are wholly the task of the mobo CPU?

b. What hardware are you using to mount that HTPC box behind the TV?  (on the FitPC, we used velcro, but i doubt thats a viable solution here)

The AIR platform does not take advantage of the GPU (as of yet) and so Video card does not matter that much.
You will need to use a VGA extender as it may be hard to hide the PC, it's small, but not small enough:

ok, we bought and tested the eebox from Asus.

Even after clearing almost all extra background programs and processes on Windows XP...

It is clear that this box will not perform adequetely enough for anything but a slideshow and maybe a news ticker.

--------

With all the new flex component goodies being added by the good folks here at mediaSignage, cpu power needs are only going to rise, and since we incorporate plenty of  flv video in our campaigns;  As a business strategy, we are avoiding any ATOM based solutions.
(and that would include the eeboxes by Asus)

That's right. The eee Box does not have enough house power.

We have posted our hardware here:
http://www.digitalsignage.me/html/advertising_monitor.html

And your hardware should meet or exceed these specs.
The good new is that Adobe has signed agrrements with Intel and Nvidia for Hardware acceleration so, maybe, just maybe, our hardware requirements may actually go down with time... :)

as a follow up to the hardware issue, the recommended mediaSignage hardware is an outstanding selection of hardware coupled with an extraOrdinary supplier. (NewEgg)

Our business has done tens of thousands of dollars of business with NewEgg and save for the rare manufacturers defect, absolutely no complaints on service, support or delivery.

now...if only we could get a shorter box that did not provision space for a dvd-player and still utilized the micro-atx mobo we'd be set. ^^
(our installers use ghosted setups and USB dvd's to install software, then pull it )
