AirPlayer does weird things on MAC OSX
« on: April 10, 2009, 03:30:56 AM »
hey, spent the last few days playing with your systems, pretty cool stuff, potentially very interested in using it.

I had airplayer working well doing everything I threw at it while at work on thursday,
but when I got home and tried testing the same account on my Mac Pro it didn't quite work.

an RSS feed and label came up, but the space where Flvs where meant to play was blank.

I had a look in my Home directory and there where all the .flvs but they were named as if they were meant to be in my documents folder.

what I mean is.

in my Home Directory (named Hamish)  there were files like
'Documents/MediaSignage/Resources/451.flv'

I gather the files are meant to actually go into a folder named resources in a folder named Medioa Signage in my Documents folder, but it seems like some kind of error that they are named like that instead of actually being created in the right place?

I dunno if you guys have macs to test your system with, or if you mainly run on windows, but let me know
what I can do to get this working, I'm happy to run some tests at my end.

I have a few days off work for easter so I'm happy to play around with it a bit over the weekend.

Cheers

Hello,
Thanks for the feedback.
The Adobe Flash AIR Player has still issues in both Mac and Linux.
On Windows the AIR Player runs 100% perfect.

Just to be clear. We are talking about two different software apps.

1. MediaSignage AIRPlayer
2. Adobe AIR Player ( Adobe Integrated Runtime ).

so, our AIRPlayer is 100% fine with regards to major bugs and should work fine in all, MAC, Linux and Windows.

However, the Adobe AIR has many issues in Linux and some issues in Mac OS, so we are still waiting on Adobe before we can say that you can use our AIRPlayer on all OSs.

In about a month or so we will start trying to find some workarounds for the Linux environemt as it seems Adobe is moving slow on fixing Linux AIR Player bugs and so we will try and fix these using our work arounds.

So for now, Windows is the only 100% stable platform. I will keep everyone up to date on progress regrading this issue.

Ah ok no worries, for our purposes we would be using existing windows boxes anyway, so it's no big issue, just means
I can't use any of my Macs as test machines while I'm at home. Singage studio seems to run fine on Mac as far as I can tell though.

We are interested in deploying your system on up to 160+ screens if it turns out to work better
than what we currently use. so far I'm very happy with the ease of customization/branding of a screen,
But still want to run some more tests in terms of media management/scheduling.

if this were all running from one Account in SignageStudio, how hard would it be to add in the functionality of
Folders in the resources view? A workaround would be to name things meticulously and use the filter function constantly,
But folders would be nice considering the sheer number of files we would be working with.

well done on the whole setup so far though! it has heaps of potential.

Hi,
We will add folders for resources in one of the up coming releases.
However, right now our full focus is on stabilty and bug fixes.
Once we feel the system is 100% bug free we will continue and ad MANY features including folder resource control.
