Flickering on images
« on: May 15, 2011, 03:10:39 PM »
I have a screen division where the top/bottom are news/weather/clock, and the center majority of the screen are images, about 1920x832. They seem to have a moderately bad flickering problem; the image (and only the image, not the clock or news or weather) will flicker every couple seconds.

If I had a full-screen image with no other components, I would not have flickering. How can I solve this?

Are you using an Nvidia chipset with Linux OS?

No, AMD & ATI on Linux. There seems to be a consistency to the flickering issue - I have a clock on the edge of my screen, and the font on it is "Arial" at first (which is the incorrect font, and the only place where the font is incorrect), and the flickering occurs. When the font (by itself) changes to the font I actually selected ("Wall Street"), then the flickering stops.

Maybe it is a caching issue? The flickering is occurring on externally-linked images.

It is a known issue with Nvidia drivers on Linux, but not with AMD or Intel.
