power management erro linux
« on: January 18, 2011, 05:17:51 PM »
Hi.
I'm runnin the player version 2.2.1088 and airversion 2.5.1.17730, when I setup a station to shutdown at a specific time the player starts to shutdown and everything but during the shuting down process it stops and goes to the recovery menu of ubuntu 10.10 and stays there and i have to manualy press the power button so it can shutdown, I reboted the pc and when into terminal and typed "sudo poweroff" and it shutsdown the pc perfectly, no problem, so could this be an erro with the code that the player/controller is using to shutdown the system?

If you want, email us at MediaSignage and we will setup a Team Viewer (TeamViewer.com) session to see what's up and resolve your issue...

Always glad to help,

Hi. earlier today I talked with david and we setup a teamviewer session to try and solve the problem, but no sucess there, he told me that the comand line used to shutdown is "sudo shutdown now" and when i typed that in the terminal nothing was happening. So i reinstalled the os ubuntu 10.10 and before i did anything, instaling the player or whatever, i made some test with the terminal, when I typed "sudo shutdown now" it started shuting down but it froze on the ubuntu logo, so i tried "sudo poweroff" and it shutdown perfectly, I went ahead and tryed this command "sudo shutdown -h now" and it shut down perfectly, "sudo shutdown -P now" and it shut down perfectly, so i was wondering if with the new 10.10 version there has been a change, and maybe there needs to be an update with the command on the signage controller/player?

Hi!

I have the same problem. I am working at an project for a big company in Austria and have to install the testscreen on Wednesday (23.2.2011). I have updated the bios, installed the ubuntu 10.10 new but there is no success. First, the system froze during the shut down at the ubuntu logo. Now it froze at a special screen (I have a Screenshot). http://www.stp-design.at/failure.jpg

My E-Mail is michael.polesnig@stp-design.at

Thx for supprt.

best regards

Michael

It seemed that in Ubuntu 10.10 they have changed the shutdown procedure and so it's best to create a shell script to override the default shutdown command.  Or use Ubuntu 10.04 until we do a workaround after release 3.0 due late March.

Regards,

Eric

We call the shutdown binary command. So you can rename it to shatdown.bin and instead call your own shell script that will be called shutdown (chmod 777 shutdown) and in it you will call shutdown.bin (I think you need to add the -p flag now)
